Criminal Records-UK Citizens going Abroad- How do they know?
Answer:
its all on computer
Make enquiries before hand . Dont just arrive at the airport and hope for the best as he may be in for a surprise .
Be sensible and phone up emabassy and ask.
Enjoy
If you were going on holiday it wouldn't be a problem but as you are wanting to go to another country for marriage it is different, you will probably need some kind of visa and as it is a legal ceremony the authorities will need checks about your brother and his partner,i don't think assault convictions will make for too big a problem.
criminal convictions can be entered in the criminals passport.....under 'Observatiions'. If your brother has a passport he would do well to find the observations page and see if anything is entered thereon.
in the UK, before he travels, special branch check the passenger list for all flights, if they find his record they could stop him from boarding the flight
You have to declare any convictions on your landing card, at least. If he lies and gets caught he could be imprisoned. I suggest he contacts the Canadian Embassy for advice.
