Why is it important for there to be bilinguals in the United States?

it's not important. my kids use to watch hanna montana until she said 3 words in spanish. i don't let them watch it no more. if other americans started this they would start losing TV rating. and stop the ignorance.
It's not. Most of the bilinguals that I know are not efficient in either language. Some of them are profficient in one, but not the other. True bilinguals are rare.
There is many cultures in the United States, each with its own language and customs, being able to communicate with more than just english is a pretty useful asset in practicality and traveling abroad.
I guess so you can understand the people coming over here.
But I kinda oppose to being bilingual. I don't want to learn any new launguages. I am happy to only know English.
I mean, my ancestors were form the old country and they came here as colonists and settled in DE or PA(my family's from PA)
and we grew up with English for a long time. This country should still have English as the primary language.
To be able to communicate with all the different kinds of people from all the different kinds of countries.
It's not important. It's important that everyone living in the United States of America speak English. This multicultural garbage is destroying the fabric of our civilization and undermining the unity that Americans once shared.
Be bilingual on your own, leave the United States out of it.
Whether you like it or not, the US is getting more immigrants, legal and illegal, every day. And not all of them speak English. We need people who speak their languages to work with those who don't speak English for things like job interviews, welfare, or even deportation.

so we can learn to understand and speak the language of the ilegals because they are too lazy to learn ours. It's mandatory in the public schools now.. they must know a foreign language to graduate.. It seems that is more important than math or science.. I wonder why our kids aren't ready for college but at least they will know how to understand those too lazy to learn English.
dont know, but i get paid more to bridge the gap, since most Americans are too lazy to learn a 2nd language
