Does Japanese government recongnize double nationalities?

for example, if a person is American citizen. Can he/she be the Japanese citizen at the same time?

Answer:
Japanese law does not allow for double nationality
I'm Japanese and a green card holder, and I don't really know if I want to get a citizenship in the US because if I become an American citizen, I'll lose my citizenship in Japan. The Japanese government doesn't allow people to have dual citizenship. It sucks. But there are some people who actually have Japanese and the US passports. I don't know how they can do that:http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/queread...
