I don't think he carrying a full deck of cards. He and I share opposite views on the Preamble to the Constitution. He would have you believe that immigrants are our problem, legal or illegal. How he wants to treat the illegal immigrants will form a mindset in those who would be legal immigrants. Fewer of them would want to come here.
By the same token he would not be able to mention that people from our trading partners also died on 9/11. No to him and his kind they think the attacks were aimed specifically at Americans. And quite likely to have disregarded the full statements of fella's like Osama Bin Laden. Where he mentions the West as well as America along with our business partners. No, people like that are selfish.
As for the Preamble, it descibes the basic tenents as to how to approach the body of the document. Something I feel that Congress has overlooked more often than could be said. I feel that when an idea as well intended as our Constitution is taken apart and out of context, the continuity is thrown off kilter. How we present ourselves to the world has been blurred. When that happens The very next document of great importance to us, The Bill of Rights also suffers. there is only one document that seperates us from any part of the world, The Declaration of Independence. Whoever doubts this had better reread it. The Consitution describes shared powers. The Bill of Rights I descibe as a treatise with ourselves. It is all inclusive. It is humane. It is our equilibrium.

I don't know, maybe I am walking around up here with this higher ideal of what it means to be American. One thing I do know, the full weight of American resillience is not up here with me.
Well, if the government isn't willing to protect our borders, SOMEONE has to. And, since it HAS fallen to the average guy next door, don't see how you can really complain about lack of screening.

No. But the founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center (by which the author of your linked article is employed), Morris Dees, IS mentally unstable.

Jim Gilchrist is the minutemen founder and is a great guy. I have heard him personally speak and he has some good points.

Does it really matter? They are providing a needed service and require background checks to prevent members of hate groups from joining -- which is more than La Raza or MEChA do... But then, MEChA at very least IS a hate group.
The SPL has a respected past but I have lost my respect for their current incarnation. They have a 'hate group' list reminiscent of the Salem witch trial accusers. Under their own definition of a hate group, they are one.
