Answer:
As soon as your application is approved, you should have gotten an I-551 stamp in your passport. That is evidence you are now a legal permanent resident (have been approved for a green card). LPRs can work incident to status, which means you can go work for anyone who will hire you.

Normally, you get the green card itself in 3-6 months. You can go to the USCIS case status page and put in your receipt number to check. If it says approved, then it should be coming soon. If it says pending, then your green card hasn't been requested yet. In that case, you can call the office where you had your interview to check on it or you can apply for an InfoPass appointment to ask.
