Immigration lawyer gets prison for visa scheme. Do you think she should be disbarred?

A federal judge on Friday sentenced a Houston immigration attorney to more than four years in prison for her role in an elaborate Chinese visa fraud scheme.
Yali Huang, 44, was convicted of conspiracy and visa fraud in February after a 2½-week jury trial that detailed a scheme to file false documents in support of temporary business visa and employment-based green card application. Prosecutors said the fraud ring operated from 2000 to 2005. She forged documents for clients applying for extensions for temporary business visas, writing letters purportedly from Chinese companies, and in some cases, using a dummy corporation called Ultra Controls set up with her husband. She also was accused of participating in a green card fraud scheme that involved creating fake stock certificates and forging signatures. She was sentenced to 51 months and $10,000 fine.

Answer:
Usually a felony conviction will result in disbarment anyways...10,000.00 fine was too low...after all, her actions probably resulted in alot more in taxpayers costs as well as legal costs. I certainly hope they deport the people that she got into this country. She is an immigrant herself...if she has a citizenship, it may be possible that they strip her of it. I hope so anyways.
Yes !!
No...she can stay in jail like she's supposed to.
No worries, she will be disbarred as you cannot be a member of the bar if you have been convicted of a felony, which she has.
yes she should be disbarred and she will be any always she committed a federal crime
She can do both, stay in prison, and be disbarred. She should never again be allowed to have that sort of power. If she were a doctor doing things to people under anesthesia that were wrong ( ie, performing a tubal ligation during an operation to remove an appendix) she would never practice medicine again in this country. If she is going to practice law again, it would have to be in China. Because I would take away any chance she had to ever work in law again. She shouldn't even be a paralegal.
If she is convicted of a felony she will be disbarred.
they will be disbared automatically
$10,000 fine. THese fines I'm seeing for businesses are way too small. SHe charges $60,000 a person to help them illegally stay here and she ends up only pay $10,000??

I guess Daisy is right. The cost of CHinese to come here has sky rocketed. It use to $30,000 five years ago.

Remember the bill and the fine people needed to pay to get their Z visa. People are willing to pay $60,000 to come here and they were whining about $5,000.
Once any lawyer has been found guilty of a felony, the BAR association disbars them automatically. See even lawyers do not like felons among their ranks.

Pearlthegirl, if you do not care..Why did you answer this question except to get 2 more points, that's NOT what these forums are about.

Wanda, if it's a misdemeanor, they likely would not do anything to disbar. Like a speeding violation, or something like that. The BAR association is not so forgiving of a felony.
I'm sure her conviction will be an automatic disbarr. She should not be allowed to leave prison, let alone practice law! People like her, like the coyotes, should get the death penalty.
disbarred and jailed.
She abused what this country gave her. After she gets out she should not only be disbared but also have her citizenship revoked and be deported back to China.
Yes an if possible deported? 51 yrs & 100,0000.00 How much has she made an cost us citizens for the scam.
The fine should $150,000 plus ten years in jail. She sworn an oath to uphold the law. She instead scheme to circumvent it. I think debarment in inevitable if convicted.
She should have been fined the same amount of money she made ! I`m sure it`s in the millions . Those million dollar fines should be given to the Border Patrol to buy buses for the the upcoming deportation of Illegals.
Visa fraud and abuse is really serious and getting worse every year, I am glad to see legislators, cities and states finally start dealing with it.

Yes she should be disbarred and instead of a $10,000 fine it should be $10,000 each document forged.
She should be disbarred. She abused her rank.

I wonder if there will be a review of all the cases she helped out.
Absolutely!
Yes, she should be disbarred, fined, and 51 months in jail sounds good to me and if she is not a legal citizen she should be deported after all served..
