As a resident alien of the US, do I need a passport to travel to Canada and back?

Your citizenship, not your residency, is the issue.

yes you will
i dont think so cuz we dont have a real probelm w/ canada
Why would you want to travel back?
If you have your green card then it will be fine. As others are saying next yr you will need to have a passport if you are a citizen by then, citizens will be required to carry a passport where ever they go out of the state they are living in. You as an alien make sure you have you Id card and or your green card and you will be fine.
yes go to www.travel.state.gov for the us and
www.cic.gc.ca for canada
It's starting to look that way.
