Assuming they contacted the US Embassy at birth, here is what you need: http://travel.state.gov/family/family_is...
You will have to write to the town in Germany in which you were born. Probably the Health or Vital Statistics department.

i DON'T HAVE THE EXACT ADDRESS, E-MAIL THE GERMAN EMBASSY IN WASH. D.C., THEY HELPED ME A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. GIVE WHERE, WHEN, MOTHERS MAIDEN, FATHERS NAME ETC.
us embassy in germany. check for the department that handles foreign born citizens. my son was born in korea, so i had to get his b.c. from the us embassy in Seoul.
you send for it from Germany. call and find out. unless the child was born on an american bass.
