If i have a British passport do I need a VISA to stay and work in the UK?

I am an Australia citizen and have an Australia passport and through my father have a British passport also.

I am traveling to the UK later this year and am looking into moving over there to live and work.

Because I already have a British passport through heritage; do I need to apply for a VISA in order to stay and work?

Answer:
Do you actually have the passport, or just the right to the passport through your father? If you hold the passport, then UK considers you British, regardless of other passports held. Then you should have the "Right of Abode." See British High Commission website.

Yes, you do. you have a tourist visa and that's different, just to visit. But if you have a British passport ,you don't need no visa, you are a Britt. Good luck!!
If you have a British Passport in hand then I assume that you are considered a dual citizen from your parents. My daughter was also born a dual citizen and has a passport for both countries.

If you intend to go and migrate there in UK indefinitely, then you are not required to have any kind of visa because you obviously have the required passport meaning that you have rights to stay as long as you wish and do as you please.

However, I would caution you to check with your Australian Embassy in regards to how long you are allowed to reside there without it affecting your citizenship status in Australia. There may not be any rules about this whatsoever, but in some countries there are restricted time periods for dual citizens. For example, I am a US citizen from birth and also later became a dual citizen whenever I married and lived abroad for a few years. I was told by my embassy after some time that in order to continue my citizenship status I am required to keep ties with the US (for example: voting, being tied to ownership of property or residence etc). If you continue to visit and come and go every year or so, then I don't think you'll have any problem. Best of luck!
