Can my insurance company pay for a medical examination provided by a civil surgeon for immigration purposes?

I have been asked to be be examined by a civil surgeon as part of my green card process. And I was wondering, can my Group Health insuranbce cover this expense? Any similar experiences may help. Thanks!

Answer:
It depends. My husband had a similar experience. We have insurance, but the insurance requires that we have a designated primary care physician (PCP) who did not do the kind of exam required by immigration. If you have a PCP, you are required to see the PCP for everything and then get a referral. Plus insurance only pays for what is medically necessary and the health exam for immigration is not. He found a doctor who specializes in this sort of thing, and we paid about $150 out of pocket.
