Why not control our borders and ports, and enforce our immigration laws first ?

And then after that has been done, we can talk about what of our immigration laws need to be changed, or if they are ok as is. Almost all of us have said we need control of our borders, in todays changing times, we have to know who is coming into our country, and why.

Answer:
What a novel concept, enforce the existing laws.

This could apply to a dozen facets of our society that I could think of off the top of my head.

Bottom line is; laws are made for the 90 or so percent of the population who are fools enough to obey them.

I go nuts every time I see a new law designed to prevent an illegal action from occurring again. It is as if the criminal action that sparked the new law was perfectly legal. If we need a new gun law to prevent something like Virginia Tech from happening I must assume it was perfectly OK the first time.

The US has been of this mind set for decades and it is getting worse with every passing day. We are circling bowl sir, just wait a few more years and you will that flushing sound.
Why not indeed.
that's a good idea before we occupy other countries. Its as if the only place Al-Queda may come from is Iraq and Afghanistan they could come from other places.
The new bill has a few tricks for both sides. Legalizing would help the Democrats get votes. THere are a few nasty tricks the republicans put in too.
That would be the logical thing to do. After all, it is not just a case of illegals coming to our country and taking away the jobs from residents, getting free medical care, food stamps, housing subsidence and all that.
Look at the illegals who decided to stike out on 9/11. So, that would be the thing to do, secure the borders and then talk about what to do with illegals (and legal immigrants). I think there should be a "no vacancy" sign hung up.
I agree. I would feel more like believing the sincerity of the government if they would start first with securing our borders and preventing any more illegal immigrants from entering while enforcing our current laws. Then, once that has gotten under control, deal with the ones currently in the country. We don't need NEW laws, just need to enforce the ones we already have. I do not, however, agree with affording any illegal immigrants any sort of "easy path to citizenship" or any other sort of amnesty, whatsoever. I do not believe in rewarding criminal behaviour!
