UK users: Do you think cultural beliefs and background affect the way?
Should all foreign trained medical personnell (nurses, doctors, midwives etc) be made to undertake a compulsary training period when they come to the UK in order for them to understand values and expectations of British people?
Answer:
yes
No not really, If you are ill in hospital then you should be just grateful that a foreigner has taken their time to come to the UK to help you. Our useless government ruins the Health Service so that most of the best medical people leave to other countries for more money, better way of life and to be appreciated for the superior services that they provide.
Does that help?
understand the values and expectations of British people.
you must be joking, i have to sometimes coz of my job work in hospitals you should spend a Friday or Saturday night in any A&E unit in any big city in the UK and your opinion will change on who needs to be trained in understanding how to behave in a grown up manner.
ive seen hospital staff being abused by people just coz they have so far had to wait 15 minutes and they feel they should be first seen.
ive seen people beaten up, stabbed, hit with base ball bats and a women have acid thrown in her face and that just the recption staff.
it is a wonder we can ger people to work in our A&E departments i think we should be glad foreign people are willing to come work here
I think anyone who is fully qualified medically is an incredibly intelligent person and is more than capable of making decisions on their own.
What they should be trained in is the art of dealing with rude, offensive, ungrateful, ignorant and often drunk or drugged up people who attack them verbally and physically whilst they are doing a hard, unrewarding, underpaid, essential job.
your question assumes that the foreign medical staff are lacking in some manner. From my own experiences of foreign doctors I must say that the level of training they have received far supercedes their British colleagues and the level of specialism that they have is often far higher. I believe the NHS is interested only in cost cutting and saving money and many of teh foreign doctors here are suprised to see that a western country such as UK has such poor medical assistance available. Although there is a lot to be said for the NHS, there is even more to be said for overhauling the system and making it into the effective system of health care that it was always meant to be. Foreign doctors and medical staff add a great deal to what is otherwise a very poor service.
