Should immigrants be made to be British?
Answer:
If immigrants want to live in Britain, fine...but accept the way the country is.
As for places of worship.why not? Whats the problem there?
as they'd say in the Houses."Here, Here!"
I'm British, born and bred, being a Christian does not make you British, it takes a little more than that, national identity does not mean everyone wearing a cross!!
I'd exclude anyone who used the word 'cuz' to mean because!!
I agree completely, if we visit their country's we must live by there customs. We do so out of respect, they should have the respect to do so in return. Why should we have mosques and special schools? The 'great' is slowly being taken out of Britain. We are losing our identity as a country and it is wrong, we cannot even fly our flag proudly without some PC do-gooder think we are inciting racism. I am proud of my country and do not want to lose our culture in order to make room for everyone elses. I am not racist I just feel that our heratige and culture should be protected before it is too late
So totally agree, if we went to live in their countries would we get the same special treatment? I think not.
spot on well said i totally agree
Here Here... I second that!! x Well said! x
yes very smart question
mr toto ( me ) is gona back you up on this totally
I came over from South Africa 6 years ago. I have had to intergrate and live as a Brit. I do not receive benefits
(unemployment, ect), even though my grand parents were British. Britain hasn't made special arrangements for us. However, I do feel that if I had come from Afganistan or the like I would be treated better. So not all immigrants can be classed in the same catagory.
Agreed(ish). Though EU directives have little to do with the problem.
i don't think they should be made a British citizen unless they are born in the country, and i agree that schools shouldn't bend the rules, and communities shouldn't either just to protect other religions, they are being indirectly prejudice against there own people. its awful to think that there are probably no true British people anymore, I'm not saying that its a bad thing to be multiracial, I'm just saying you get your true Americans, your true Spaniards, true Indians and the list goes on, but are there really any true British people left, it would be interesting to know.
I am of asian descent but was born in Britain and am proud to be British and live the British way.
I totally agree with the above.
If you want to be a part of a country then you should take on all that it means .. not just pick and choose the good parts.
Everyone has a right to choose their own religion but this should not grant rights above and beyond others.
At the same time, I do believe that if British people in general had been a little more tolerant towards immigrants then perhaps compromise would have been reached rather than them being forced into a corner and 'sticking together' in communities rather than integrating across the board.
We are a multicultural society now so hopefully in the future people will have the common sense on both sides to see that this can co-exist with the British way of life and the knuckle-dragging bigots will slowly die out as the other dinosaurs did.
Yes. They should be forced to and should be tested before they enter the country.
The issue is rather more complex than you suggest. Britain has freedom of religion and it is perfectly reasonable that those who follow faiths other than Christianity should be permitted to do so. Such people are by no means all “immigrants” – indeed the majority of Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs etc have long since been British citizens and are often third or fourth generation (or more) Brits. So a mosque (for example) is not built for immigrants but for Muslims (who are of many ethnic backgrounds, including white!).
As far as schools are concerned we have long had Catholic schools, Jewish schools and schools of other faiths (and none). Obviously as the numbers of followers of Islam in our society grows (it does) then many of these followers will want their children to be educated in Islamic schools. If these schools teach the national curriculum, do not preach extremism and are otherwise good educational establishments is there a problem?
this question shows that Hitlers spirit lives on in a few stupid people.
yes lets force people into being like us, lets make them drop there religion and way of life and become like us Brits, does that mean they must get drunk 3 times a week and swear and fight in the street.
the tax payer funds British state schools all other religious schools are privately funded shall we take away the right of people on what they can spend there money on.
its not the fault of the immigrant that our culture is so week and pathetic that they must tone there's down coz there showing up the lack of ours.
yes i agree that Britain is changing but we are becoming more American than we are Muslim or european, why is that down to immigrants ??
In another couple of generations they say Britain and much of Western Europe may be an Islamic caliphate (see the new book "America Alone"). By then the USA will be a banana republic. The multinational corporations and one-worlder molders of public policy that seem to be behind this are apparently intent on destroying Western Civilization.
The same trends are not occurring in the Islamic World, to Chinese Civilization, to Japanese Civilization, to India. Their cultures will still be intact in a couple of generations, but Western Civilization may only survive in Poland and Russia.
If you go to live in another country, you will always be a foreigner with ideas different from the majority of people in your adopted country.
For example, if you go to live in Spain, you will think in English at home; you will not drive like a bloody idiot; you will keep to speed limits and wear your seat belt in town; you will prefer to read books in English; you will probably not eat calves' nostrils in tomato sauce, etc.
You could take Spanish nationality, but you will never become Spanish.
The same applies to people coming to the UK. They will always be foreigners.
Having said that, Spain makes little or no allowances for foreigners.
I remember seeing a notice in an NHS doctors' surgery in Spain which stated that 'if you do not speak Spanish, please bring someone to translate for you. The sign was in Catalan!
And on every Sunday we must have a roast dinner.
You never become British later. You can obtain British pass, but you only become British citizen, not a Briton although you speak perfect English, drink tee, never leave the house without umbrella and so on... A foreigner always remains as a foreigner.
This question and indeed some of the answers would ideally be posed on myverdict.net, an exercise in direct democracy. They can not be british if they dont know how to drink like british or be alcoholic
You cannot make a foreign person British for the simple reason they don't want to be British, they have there own identity and there own culture so why should they want to be British for heavens sake. To draw a similarity its like an Englishman moving to Spain or Italy, he will never class himself as a Spaniard or Italian, he will remain English in heart and mind. So lets stop kidding ourselves about foreigners wanting to be British, how silly.
I find white British hypocritical, cold, selfish and RACIST. If I was an immigrant why on earth would I want to be a part of that? If the British really wanted immigrants to integrate they would be falling over themselves to be more welcoming and understanding. They are none of these things and they never will be. What's more they seem proud of it.
Within the last few days there was a documentary showing how the British kept themselves British under the raj rule in India. "They went through great lengths to do so" [sic]. Some simple minded will say that's the past but the legacy of that and thier history before lives on.
Well put and I totally agree with you
If you live in britain, you already must obey british law. Also, the government does not typically build places of worship for any religion, christian or no. These buildings are typically funded privately, with heritage money, or sometimes by charities.
We build extra schools when we need to teach more students; if different regions have heavily-weighted ethnic divisions, then it will appear to mouth-breathing fuckwits such as yourself that a 'special school' has been built when actually, a standard 'school' has been built for an area that now requires one of its own.
Now that we've pared your argument down to some relatively simple boilerplate nationalistic anti-euro invective, I think we can all get on with our day.
