Well this is a long one, depending on who, what, where you came from, how old, what are you doing, how do you support yourself, have you paid taxes and been a law abiding citizen, have you had your visa revoked and then sneaked back in?
You need to be more specific for the best answer.
I was there illegally for 8 years in phoenix AZ, Houston TX and San Diego CA.
I could have been legal many times but chose not to as my American Fiance, who I have a 4yr old boy with is a very stupid sort of person.
The ways that you could become legal are many 1: Open a business and get a busines Visa (need to show $50K in a bank account for investment in the US). 2. Marry a US citizen, if you can't find one there are many that will do this for $5000, pay half to start the process and the rest at the final interview, (you will need to live with them for 2 years as they need to see shared bills and Accounts etc. 3: if you know a restaurant that sells food from your home country see if they will sponsor you with a job there. 4: Leave the country through Mexico (drive) then fly from Mexico to your home country Direct if possible and get educated in one of those Jobs that they need people for in the USA Medical, professor engineeer etc the list is available at The immigration office and then come back to a job in one of those job areas.5: Student visa, find out at local colleges what is needed and if you qualify (you may have to pay a little) then leave the country and come back after applying for your student visa.
Other options are the George W Bush amnesty bill that is going through the house at present, it is not as good as the Bill Clinton amnesty instigated By George H Bush (no strings were attached) This will be no good if you have committted crime or can't prove what you did here for years without paying taxes, how did you support yourself.
During my time there I had two business's so I was never hassled by anyone unless I was entering the country or driving accross state borders in the south especially they are reall strick there now, thats when your passport has to be in order and your reason for comming into the USA, return ticket, and enough cash or credit card for your stay depending on week's months of stay and who with, but that's another story.
