how do you read the menu at taco bell? because obviously we LEARN the words that we are going to be using most frequently. that's the reason why i know what fajitas are...yum! also...speed limit signs generally post a number...and lucky for us, those are universal, eh? also, there is a scary percentage of english speakers who are unable to read as adults, so most public service signs feature pictures to help the illiterate, as well as foreign language speakers and visitors.
