Why Northern Mexican music and southwestern U.S music sound pretty much like German Polka ?
Answer:
Not really surprising. The Texas Hill Country is full of German immigrants.
Mexican music has only one tune and it never ends.
There were a lot of German immigrants to Texas, the two groups must of mixed together at one point in History.Thats my theory anyways...
The first Europeen settles in Texas were the the polish. We mexican adapted to playing our music to the Polish Polka.
It gets the oom pah pah sound from the concertina or what ever you call that acordian thing. I don't know what the music in the SOuth west sound like other than some guy on a guitar. Spain shares some histor with germany, so I would assume a musical instrument. It could have something to do with the Hapsburg empire. Mexico has a large German immigrant group too. I think it dates back to the late 1800's.
Dude, did you know that POLKA is a POLISH dance?
Germans had nothing to do with it.
