My brother is a U.S. citizen currently based in India. If he files a petition for my Green Card/permenant residency status in the US, how much time will it take for me to get the Green Card? Kindly note he will file the petition from India. I have heard that if you file the application in India rather than from the US, the processing time is very less because of a much fewer cases of US citizens applying for family-based Green Card while living permanently in India. Kindly advice.
Answer:
No - location means nothing - first come - first serve and they are at least 6 months backlogged for certain case types. For just a family - I believe that it is several years waiting time right now. You can check the time frames on the us immigration site.
Took my family 6 years from Portugal.
Well a long time, First because he is in India, I know that INS will want for him to prove incomein the US for the las 3 years...I am going myself to apply for my own brother and I am American he lives in central america and I am sue his residence it will take for him to get because I am is the US and I can prove that I can support him here in the US...Will be about 5-7 years the most is my best guest I am not sur for rthe moment..I hear is up to 10m years so Good luck!!!
