Living in America - what do I need to do?
Answer:
Welcome! Anyone who wants to work in the U.S. (who doesn't plan on immediately seeking citizenship [you aren't, are you?]) needs to obtain a visa/green card. (I know this was the case with a British friend of mine who was a college student but wanted to work in this country.)
Check out the Immigration & Naturalization Services webpage (listed below) and see if you can get the information you need or, if possible, contact information for people who can help.
I wish you the best of luck!! :)

P.S. What's the deal with these other answers? If you hate America, get out. No wonder they call it "MyTend!" LOL :)
need a lobotomy first
Get a gun.
You need to see a psychiatrist. Why would you want to move to America when you can stay in the free world?
You need to start eating.
Well you dont need to work. Us tax payers will pay your way.
Yes, you need a visa/green card. You are an alien you cannot enter the country w/o these things. You will also need a working permit of some kind to open a business. Do some research.
Best of luck. Make sure you wear a bullet proof vest. Oh and don't speak out against the military in public or you'll get a dawn visit from Homeland Security.
Yes you do. Take care of that first, and you shouldn't have any problems. By the way, i wish you the best of luck on your business venture.
wear a 10 gallon hat on a 1 ounce brain and talk stupid
I've been a permanent resident for 500 days and still no wiser to the whole immigration process. Although a good tip would be to contact the US embassy they'd be able to advise you best.
you need a visa and a citizenship test whne you there. once youve been naturalised then you have a job... u r officially a citizen! good luck!
you can do anything here, even kill! the land of the free!
If you have no employment prospects, it may be difficult to get a green card or even a work visa, but that is what you would need.
Good luck, and don't listen to the other responders - you are making the right decision. We are SOOOOOO rich here!
my god we been trying to get out there for over 1yr so much red tape we have decided to get a permanent residency visa the only way to get over there but we have to invest $150,000 in anything we like in order to do this we have an American solicitor involved and are going over at Easter to view properties we hope to buy 2 1 to live in and 1 to rent out good luck makes you sick anyone can move here to UK but we cant get out for anything other than money
You need a German car, a Japanese television, Canadian perscription drugs, Mexican food, and Chinese furniture. And bring plenty of English beer.
you need at least $500,000 to invest, and not have a criminal record.
Either that, or marry a US citizen.
You can read about immigration here.
Self employment would probably be more complicated.

Yes you need a working visa if you are going to stay over 3 or 6 months
You need a green card. Only illegal aliens from latin-America are allowed to live here without a green card.
Mexicans are encouraged to come here to work below minimum wage as agricultural labor. Not so for whites.

You will need a green card/visa.......as long as you do it legally. And hey if you do then welcome to America hun.
You can go the green card route, or try to enter as an entrepeneur.
If you do so, see the following link for the PDF version of form I-526 (Immigrant Petition by Alien Entrepeneur).
Hi there well actually since you are a business woman there are several options. Check the following page it might help you understand which are the ways...
I recomend marrying a us citizen or applying for a job or invest in a company here that might claim you to be a us resident.
do it illegally, then file for discrimination if you are treated any differently than the 10-20 million other illegals
Move to Seattle, you will find it quite nice and the people very polite, and quite a bit of British people are living there as well. Plus you will be close to Canada. Anyways a place like Seattle is much different than lets say rude New Yorkers or Texans. Plus being in Seattle you will be also closer to Asian markets. But go to an American Embassy for more info. But good luck on your process, it will be a hassle. I have a lot of Friends that are Canadian who are trying to become permante US residents and they say the whole process is a very big hassle, it would be easier to just run across the Mexican-American border.
