Change of Visa Staus from B1/B2 to permanent status?

If I have a B1/B2 visa and my father who is a US citizen is filing for me. Can I come to the US and get a work permit until my filing is complete or do I have to stay in Jamaica until my filing is completed

in theory you need to run the paperwork from Jamaica. However it would be very funny you do that while millions who are not lucky to have a US ciitzen parent roam free everywhere....
