he needs to talk to the INS office and get the papers, fill them out and do it the legal way. It takes a LONG time...they do background checks and interviews, etc. If he's working here, he can come on a work VISA but his best bet is to talk to INS

Good for your boss for doing a good deed. Your boss has to get in touch with INS, tell them his intentions as an employer who wants to petition an existing employee. INS will mail him the necessary forms needed. This is easily done and self explanatory as I've done this before with employees. But if he can't, he will have to go to a lawyer who is knowledgeable on Immigration laws. At any rate, INS will be glad to help you with any of your questions. Good luck.
