Difference between a consulate and an embassy, and how to apply again?

what's the difference between a consulate and an embassy?

sometime back i applied for a us visa and it was turned down. is there anybody out there who was denied a visa on the first interview but later succeeded the second time?
was it difficult?

Answer:
The consulate is the place where you reqeust a visa and get info about how to get one, instition for the consulate country citizen in the immigration country (Dr speaking the language, schools, etc.) and info on the consulate country for the host country citizen (what to visit, culture links, how and what visa to get).

The Embassy is more the cultural, diplomatic institution with officials from its country, representing the country in the host country.

You can reapply for a visa after one was denied. You may want to check with theconsulate of the country you are applying to to make sure there is not a minimum of time you have to wait before you can re-apply.
The reason of rejection, which should have been give to you, insufficient proof of intention to leave when due, lack of financical support proof to show you will be able to survive once in the host country, proper citizen background, etc., will appear on your file and will show to the immigration officer when you re-apply, so it will be metnion during the interview. Dont hide it and don;t deny it, it is ok, depending of the reason why your first visa was denied, you will be able (or not) to get one if you are able to show proof of change of situation (return ticket, family members to return to to show attach to your home country, financial resources on bank statement, blank police record or you will have to convince the immigration officer taht you have change are are not the person you were that was charged for whatever petty crime or drug consumption or possession etc...).
Good luck.
