Holidaymaker scheme - is there another way if so please help?
I think we need to explore other avenues, so any suggestions would be very much appreciated as she has thought long about wether to come UK or not and made her decision that she will instead of America. Best answer chosen as always:p
Answer:
It's going to be very difficult to get any kind of work visa for the UK, unless she has some skill in high demand. She could apply for a tourist visa, for this to be granted she would have to convince the British Embassy in Thailand that she had sufficient funds for her intended visit AND that she intended to return at the end of her visit. A letter of sponsorship from you offering accommodation and financial support could help, but there will be suspicions about her real intention of returning; certainly don't mention anything about finding her a job as she will not be allowed to work on a tourist visa, and any suggestion of working would result in the application going in the bin! Offers of sponsorship are not automatically accepted - first you need to show that you have the resources, accommodation, bank statements, wage slips, etc - but most of all it's the matter of intention that counts.
If you are really soulmates, the only way you are going to get her here unless she qualifies under HSMP, wants to come to study (very expensive), or can get a work permit (unlikely), is for you guys to get married. Whether you get married over there or plan to marry here, her application will only succeed if you can show that you can support and accommodate her, though after marriage she would be aloowed to work.
So you need to get your financial affairs in order and think about the long term, not just how to get her here, but how to make your lives together. I think you should seriously consider living together and marrying in Thailand, after four years of marriage you would be able to bring her here.
Good luck.
Has she considered the possibly of doing voluntary work in the UK? She might want to look into that option. I don't know what the rules are for Thai nationals are, however I met my partner who comes from Asia and is not eligible for a working visa while he was in the UK doing that. Accommodation, food, some travel expenses within the UK were given. Good luck!
If you have a friend who is a UK national, they can sponsor you, but they effectively guarantee your stay will be at their expense and I think that the time limit is three months. If you need to work to get money to travel further, I would look to alternative countries, as in order to be allowed to work in this country you will need a job in advance of coming, your employer will be your sponsor, you obtain your permits before leaving Thailand, and even if you have this there is no guarantee of approval. On the positive side, your application would not be viewed as a purely economic device, as would be the case if you came from one of the poorer nations of the Far East.
There is nothing even half-way similar to the WHM scheme which would suit the suitation/nationality you describe.
