Immigration Question...?

I have a question for people on both sides of the Mexican immigration issue.
It appears that the US government is very set on making it impossible to enter this contry illegally. However, if as a nation, America chose to accept all non-criminal Mexican people who wished to relocate in the country, work, and build families and homes here--what would be the disadvantages?
After a brief screening process (which would include a criminal background check, disease tests, and proof of enrollment in English classes) what would be the harm in allowing more potential citizens into America?
On the other side of the issue, what are the benefits of allowing hardworking immigrants (who want to make America their homeland) to enter this country legally?
Answers from both sides of the immigration issue are welcome.

Answer:
~America is over populated as it is. As another answer points out, they save their money and send it to Mexico. How is that HELPING Americans?~
i agree with you there is no harm.
I actually like the bill as its written, it takes both sides and forges a compromise that is acceptable to the majority of people.
Umm, in case you haven't noticed, Mexicans are NOT the only people who want to move to the USA. Billions of other people around the world want to come here just like the fake Pedro

Pedro's family has abused and overstayed her welcome. It's time to give other countries a chance. Salted crackers should be banned from themselves forever...
You're ignoring the selection issue. We want to accept a mix of immigrants, both laborers as well as educated scientific persons that plan on making a contribution to our cultural basis. If we allow unlimited Mexican immigration, we are going to get the bottom of the barrel, because these are the people that come across the border to get any kind of job. I don't think the majority plans on staying and making a contribution.
Also we would be encouraging a large minority within our culture which has shown to be happier to live in enclaves and ghettos and make the US seem like home.
We can only take so much of that..
First let me start by saying they are not all Mexican. There are many from Honduras, Cuba, Brazil, Guatemala etc. So if you are from Mexico then you are mexican. If you are from Honduras you are not Mexican. You are of hispanic origin but just because a lot of people come thru Mexico does not make everyone mexican.

I do not think that its a bad thing at all. Immigration is what made this country. If you have never watched the movie A Day Without A Mexican you should. Its a very accurate report of what our lives would be like if all the hispanics were deported.

The hispanic population legal and illegal contribute a lot of $ to our economy every day. And they take away but of course our very own dear government has allowed it for years. Thats where the problem started. I know several illegal aliens who have medicaid, wic, food stamps etc...and all they did was walk in fill out some papers and bam, we are paying their way. That makes them pretty smart if you ask me. But now the government wants to punish them for their own mistakes.

I have cousins who came here from other countries because their parents drug them here to give them a better life. Do I agree with that, not really but its not their fault. So we put them thru school and once again pay their way but lets not give them a social so they can go get a job and be productive so they can get welfare instead...whos to blame? THE US GOVT!

We have soooooooooo many lazy americans who live off of our system every day and we dont try to pass any laws to punish them for their behavior, the gov't gives them more for having more kids etc..I have to pay over $300 a month jsut for my child insurance and I probably make less than most people and I dont get any help.

If you look at the jobs that they typically hold here, its the jobs that most of us would not take. Working out in the heat all day, cooks, cleaning. And for well under minimum wage. So legalize them and let them pay the $5K so they can be productive people in our society.
