Di You Know California Is The Richest State In The U.S.??

And has the 8th largest economy in the world?? So how exactly are illegals hurting California??? Most states with no Mexicans are usually dirt poor like Mississippi and South Dakota.

Answer:
Not long ago they were 6th. That give you an idea of what's going on?
i didnt know that and i live in CA
woa. thx for the 2 pts.
tokyo is the worlds richest city and new york city is not far behind
Excellent point. Immigrants (including illegals) are the backbone of our economy.
it was told in National Geogra?:-)
Absolutely!!! It's amazing how we have so much of everything here and yet so much crime and poverty at the same time.
My guess is that it'd be new york but they also have a lot of immigration too
You must be an illegal alien if you are trying to justify other illegals taking away American jobs. Go back where you came from!
no but i could have guessed...
CA has population, which would ensure a certain economic cachet. Places like South Dakota don't. But I hear you. I have no problems with immigrants. Hell, if I don't have any problem with neighbors who voted for W, why would I have a problem with any member of the human race?
illegals are not really hurting the economy of California. First they pick the food we eat. Next, they do work that we won't. They do not vote. they at times work for less than min. wage. There is constant complaining that they put pressure on our welfare system by getting free medical care under the Medi-Cal system. I think that the illegals should get vaccinations and treatment for disease as to not spread it to the rest of us.
i have yet to see white Americans struggling by working at the car wash or out in the strawberry fields competing for jobs.
idk that either lol
Doo-doo-doo. Look what people live in california. California is like a communist country: there are the rich, and the poor. No middle. All the big companies are in California for some reason or the other. Plus people have to be rich in order to be able to afford to live there. It costs $80,000 in mississippi for the same house that is $700,000 in California. Stop spinning your statements, you have no Idea what you are talking about.

I'm sure if all the poor states that are full of dumb-*** white people had all the idustry, and a dollar there couldn't buy you a gumball, like in CA, that would be the richest state.

Did you know California in the Dumbest state. Look at the ammount of Highschool dropouts. Look at the standardized test scores...
Mississippi has some illegal Mexican immigrants. maybe nothing to compare with Cali, but there are some.
There are a number of reasons why California has been so successful economically.

1) because of it location and large population, which established areas like Hollywood and Disneyland. This established the world's best places for entertainment and this made it a haven for tourists.

2) Being in the USA has also made it rich.

Immigrants will not hurt the economy in anyway, in fact they usually build it up dramatically. However, to many people, the economy is not the only important thing. In fact it can mean little to the individual.

For example, immigrants are far more ready to work for less and therefore are attractive to employers. They are said to 'steal' jobs.

Also because they tend to be poor and in a state of poverty they may turn to crime to help them live.

Many people also blame them for taking up too much benefits that should be going to the locals, as the locals are the ones who have been paying towards it all their lives.

And because they may now have a better standard of living, their friends and family come too and you have a vicious circle developing.

These tend to be the reasons given against immigration, but personally I think the benefits outweigh the costs both socially and economically.
Are you misleading or ignorant? CA is the richest state in INCOME! and only because it is the most populated state. The richest per capita in income is CT or NJ.

Get this: CA has a FIVE BILLION state debt! That debt comes, in part, from prisons full of illegals, schools filled with them whose parents do not always pay taxes, and welfare to them.

Remember the Orange county fiscal meltdown? Probably not.

Just try to get this through your head: $5 billion debt
Recent (Spring 2005) economic data indicates that economic growth has resumed in California, although still slightly below the national annualized forecast of 3.9%.

The economy of California is a dominant force in the economy of the United States, with California paying more to the federal system than it receives in direct monetary benefits.

[edit] Revenue

Agriculture (including fruit, vegetables, dairy, and wine) is a major California industry. In 2004 agriculture brought in $31.8 billion in revenue, making it more than twice the size of any other state's agriculture industry. In fact, California is the world's fifth largest supplier of food and agriculture commodities.[1] Agriculture accounts for just slightly over 2% of California's $1.55 trillion gross state product.

Other major industries include:

* aerospace

* entertainment, primarily television by dollar volume, although many movies are still made in California

* light manufacturing including computer hardware and software, and the mining of borax.

California also draws significant revenue from international trade and tourism. The exports of goods made in California totaled $94 billion in 2003.[2] Nearly $40 billion of that total was computers and electronics, followed by agriculture, non-electrical machinery, transportation, and chemicals.[3] Total direct travel spending in California reached $82.5 billion in 2004, a 7.4% increase over the preceding year.[4] Los Angeles County receives the most tourism in the state.[5]

Historically, California's economy has been controlled by huge corporations such as the Southern Pacific Railroad, Standard Oil of California and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

The economy of California is often cited for how it would compare to other countries if California were an independent nation. The statistic quoted varies widely (usually placing California between 6th and 10th), depending on the source.

The two main issues are:

1. determining California's gross state product
2. determining the gross domestic product (GDP) for various countries

[edit] California's gross state product

According to the California Department of Finance, California's gross state product is $1.543 trillion .[6]

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, California's gross state product is $1.543 trillion (2004 data, revised June 2005).[7]

According to the California Legislative Analyst's Office, "California's gross state product is nearly $1.5 trillion..." ("Gross product in 2003", released in 2004).[8]

[edit] The World Factbook

According to The World Factbook published by the CIA, if California were an independent nation, it would have had the tenth largest economy in the world[9].

This assumes that California's gross state product is $1.55 trillion.

According to the California Legislative Analyst's Office, if California were an independent nation, it would have had the sixth largest economy in the world[10].

[edit] GDP

California is responsible for 17% of the United States' gross domestic product (GDP). The state's GDP is at about $1.5 trillion (as of 2004).

The GDP increased at an annual rate of 3.1% in the first quarter of 2005.[15]

[edit] Per capita personal income

Per capita personal income was $33,403 as of 2003, ranking 12th in the nation. Per capita income varies widely by geographic region and profession. The Central Valley has the most extreme contrasts of income, with migrant farm workers making less than minimum wage. While some coastal cities include some of the wealthiest per-capita areas in the U.S., notably San Francisco and Marin County, the non-agricultural central counties have some of the highest poverty rates in the U.S. The high-technology sectors in Northern California, specifically Silicon Valley, in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, are currently emerging from economic downturn caused by the dot.com bust, which caused the loss of over 250,000 jobs in Northern California alone. Recent (Spring 2005) economic data indicates that economic growth has resumed in California, although still slightly below the national annualized forecast of 3.9%. The international boom in housing prices has been most pronounced in California, with the median property price in the state rising to about the half-million dollar mark in April 2005.

[edit] Tax burden

California's overall tax burden of $10.66 per $100 of personal income is slightly above the $10.43 average for the United States.[16]

[edit] Housing

The international boom in housing prices has been most pronounced in California, with the median property price in the state rising to about the half-million dollar mark in April 2005. Orange County and the San Francisco Bay Area have the highest median prices, each approaching $650,000 in August 2004.[17] The least expensive region is the Central Valley, with a median price of $290,000.[18]

Various real estate markets in California are currently considered to be in a housing bubble.
