Why is cinco de mayo even considered a holiday?
Answer:
Most people value their cultural heritage. And only people who are ignorant, racist, or both belittle that.
That puzzles me too. I'm Mexican (Living in Mexico)and we don't even celebrate May 5th.
By the way, you are aware that, at one time in History, the French OWNED Europe?
Cinco de mayo...it like celebrating that you beat up your little sister. Why does anyone come to the US? Because its the best country in the entire world!
"every country has done beat the French" thats' funny you get a star
I don`t consider it any form of a hoilday !
Why is Independence Day a holiday? Yeah.
It's all about the marketing of beer, in the U.S.
Think of it as 'Drinko DeMayo'.
A loy of people wake up sick the day after.
Frankly its just an excuse to get sloppy drunk on Coronas
Where is the day to honor the Brits who founded this country or the Germans who are the largest group of immigrants in the country. What about Russia where my grandparents came from. Or any other country. Maybe we should have a March of Nations on Washington. All participants carry the US flag in one hand and the flag of their country of origin in the left. Let's go you unhyphenated AMERICANS.
cinco de mayo is not an American holiday although alot of American's celebrate (another reason to drink pretty much) it is an important day in the spanish culture and means alot to Mexican Americans if you were in Mexico you would probley hang your flages out for independence day right?
To promote Corona beer!
Why do we celebrate St Patricks Day or why is Christmas a federal holiday maybe I'm Jewish. Why do we celebrate anything?Maybe we should do away with all holidays.Does our government stick a gun in our face to shake us down for the money in our pockets? No but the Military who are the police force in Mexico HAVE and still DO.That's why.
technically they're independence day is September 16. Look it up if you don't believe me. In my opinion they come here because their gov't is corupt. they cant make a better mexico if their gov't doesnt care about them, all they care about is putting money in their pockets. i know because i have family in mexico. We celebrate st. patricks day, martin luther king, why not cinco de mayo?
The only Holidays in existence for U.S. is New years, Memorial day, Independence Day, Labor day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The rest are just over-rated commercialism celebrations.
p.s. I read another party's question (who was asking from Mexico) regarding the Cinco De Mayo celebrated in the U.S. Because it is not celebrated in Mexico. These people in U.S. seemed to have him confused on the issue. Or he definitely thinks they are the ones who are confused instead.
