Do immigrants get priority on social housing?
Answer:
Yes
no
If they are illegals they shouldn't get housing. The ACLU has made it their job to see that they do however.
do you mean illegal immigrans? NO, if you are not legal you can't get social housing
yes defo dude im still waiting for a three bed now while people just swan in and get one straight away c++ts
If I'm being honest I don't know. Asylum seekers used to get priority, but general immigrants, probably. The problem is not to be cruel to LEGAL immigrants by refusing them housing, but this is a small Island, a great one, but still small. English people who need social housing should be given priority, but don't hold your breath
Oh I'm sure they do. The government would rather help them than us.
yep.it was reported in the papers yesterday that the actual figures are far higher than they had originally anticipated. The immigrants are jumpimgthe housing queue, because they have "more needs". Kick in the teeth for us brits eh? Where is the harmony in that, if they are readilly allowing them to jump the queue. We get knocked back yet again. Not that i am on the housing list, but i do know people that are, and have been for years, awaiting bigger properties etc. I fell into the mortgage trap. Immigrants won't though, will they?
xxxthe person formerley blah blah
What was reported in the paper came from the GOVERMENT. it is stated in the declaration of how housing is being handled.
And who mentioned "white people"? we are talking about immigrants, who can be any colour or creed. I do not personally have a problem with the immigrants, i have a problem that they are being treated in a way that puts vulnerable british families in a less favourable position. They are not all chavs, single parents etc, there are many needy british families, born in the uk, who are being pushed down the ladder to allow for immigrants to take housing that could have been theres. Why should they get priority treatment. This makes me sick. we pay our taxes, national insurance contributions, everyone in my household works full time, and then you get people come over here and milk the system. Its wrong and should not happen. I thought this country worked on "everything is equal". Apparently not, if your british. Bloody do gooders make me sick
I was reading an article about this yesterday and yes, i'm afraid they do! Pityful!...people in overcrowded premises or those who are homeless are given the highest points which helps them towards the front of the queue
yes they do for example the local council put up 8 families in a 5 star hotel for 2 weeks and rushed through 8 house s on the same estate which had been empty for 6 months
Only if there is a "minority" case worker involved.
Hiya
The decision is based on need. If they have the most need then they would be given priority.
I work in Social Housing, and the answer is resoundingly yes.
Officially no of course.
According to the Daily Mail today they do, 200.000 council and housing association homes have been given to people who were not born in this country.
I hope not
is the pope a Catholic
Not all immigrants get benifits. If an immigrant has a visa stamp which says NO RECOURCE TO PUBLIC FUNDS then he/she cannot claim any sort of benifits in UK.
Generally any immigrant coming to UK will get a visa with NO RECOURCE TO PUBLIC FUNDS stamped on it for atleast first 5 years of his stay. Later on, once he has contributed to NI and TAX he can get the NO RECOURCE status removed from the visa.
Its also important that for first 5 years he can only stay in UK as long as he has a job and maintains his dependents on his income.
Once he has done this for 5 years he can then apply for ILR (indefinite leave to remain in UK) or for some sort of settlement.
So you see its a myth that immigrants get benefits, they are infact good for economy and also a skill assest for the country.
Regards
No.
Those who how the right to live here long-term, for example those accepted as refugees, have the same rights to social housing as UK citizens; they go on the waiting list with everyone else. Like everyone else, the time they spend waiting depends on their needs, for example if they have children.
Sometimes they appear to get housed more quickly because they are not given any choice about areas, having no particular connection to one district. They are offered and have to take the first "hard-to-let" place that comes up.
NO THEY DON'T THEIR IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES.PEOPLE WHO IMMIGRATE FOR EXAMPLE ALOT OF POLISH HAVE TO FIND ACCOMMODATION AND GET JOBS TO PAY THE RENT.REFUGEES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WORK OR RECEIVE ANY MONIES.THEY GET FOOD VOUCHERS AND THE ACCOMMODATION THEY DO GET,WELL U WOULDN'T WANT TO LIVE THEIR ANYWAY AND THE ONLY PEOPLE THEY FIGHT IT OUT WITH ON THE LIST TO GET A HOUSE WITH IS SOAP DODGERS AND JUNKIES.I KNOW WHO I WOULD RATHER STAY BESIDE ?.AS FOR JUNKIES THEY BREAK THE LAW BY TAKING DRUGS IN THE FIRST PLACE THEN LOSE THE LOSS OF A LEG SAY THROUGH INJECTING THEN GET FREE DRUGS OF THE NHS A FREE HOUSE OF THE COUNCIL AND A FREE CAR ON MOBILITY ALLOWANCE.SO FORGET IMMIGRANTS UR QUESTION SHOULD BE.DO JUNKIES GET PRIORITY OVER LOW INCOME LAW ABIDING PEOPLE WHEN IT COMES TO SOCIAL HOUSING?.
People with priority needs get priority on housing lists
The Housing Selection Scheme is designed to safe-guard and prioritise the most vulnerable members of society and certainly some immigrants will meet the vulnerability criteria, by being homeless, from a priority group (family with children, elderly, disabled) and unintentionally so while they're current housing situation often finds them in sub-standard, multiple occupation properties sharing facilities
Not all immigrants find the state owes them a duty and those from certain countries (East European) must be in employment with the same employer for a year and a half before they can be considered. So even though immigrants cannot be discriminated against in favour of 'naturalised' citizens being an immigrant does not give you an automatic leg up the housing list. Indeed while many can be socially housed they cannot claim state benefits and must be working to afford the rent and pay the bills.
yes they do and also get about £25000 grand settlement
they are held in hotel like places until they are granted staying permission then they are back payed it comes to about 25 grand my Friend used to look after the kids they got Nike trainers PlayStation's and about £200 for Xmas i don't begrudge any of this but i would like to see less fortunate English people treated the same way ,
my 3 children who where living with me and my wife left school and at 18 tried to get housing from the government but because they had good jobs and could pay there rent. didn't use drugs where not pregnant alcoholics or had mental disorders they had to go on a waiting list they are still on it after 4 years. i sold up and left England its in a bad way
If they do, that makes sense. I am sick and tired of paying for lazy chavs' social housing. There are far too many council houses here. In other countries, they are only for the disabled and immigrants until they get on their own two feet and start working. I can't believe that in the UK people have council flats for GENERATIONS, even when they are able bodied and could work. I came to this country as an immigrant, and never asked for government help. I managed to save up and buy my own flat, even though I came here from a poor country, with no money or family help.
Why anyone BORN here, speaking the language and able to work thinks they deserve government housing is BEYOND ME. Get some pride, people.
Yes, I worked on a new council house building site and as the houses were completed most of them were allocated to immigrant families, one large family got two three bed roomed houses to themselves as one house was to small for them. I live in the northwest of England.
Immigrants get priority in all things because our corrupt government despise all things British.
They hate the native Brits, they cheat and lie to us continually.
There will eventually be such a backlash that they wont know what has hit them.
Seems to appear that way. more so with city councils. But who would want to live in some of the areas they are put, its crazy. The same as they send problem familys to nice areas and cause havoc some daft people in charge.
FACT!
Please don't correct me as I have worked in social housing for years before turning to ESOL.
They do not get priority, only do they get priority if they fit into one category, vulnerability, Mr,Fox gets my vote here, obviously knows what he's talking about and he's right, some ethnic minority people do get priority in housing because of vulnerability. Who can blame the councils for doing this because if they were left to sleep on the streets there would be vigilante racist groups going around lynching them.
To the idiot that talked about illegals, what does the word mean you pleb? illegal, illegal, illegal, GET IT? How could they possibly be given housing when they are ILLEGAL?
You obviously don't know what an illegal immigrant is.
Steve the turk obviously reads The Daily Mail or Beano, prove your facts that they are given £25000, £200 for Christmas, Nike trainers and Play stations, you can't can you. Truth is you're just a bl00dy liar aren't you steve the turk, turk, is that turk as in Turkish person? Wouldn't surprise me. HYPOCRITE
And it's also fact in my city that refugees always accept the less desirable run down areas that us Brits wouldn't accept. The problem many councils have is that the indigenous people want to be housed near to family, friends etc, they don't like it if a refugee is housed in the areas where they want to be, even though a ghetto society is being created due to refugees and other ethnic minority groups being made to feel vulnerable due to archaic racist opinions of many Brits.
minty or what ever your name is you stupid idiot. You have contradicted yourself to the bl00dy question, thicko. IF THE HOUSES HAD BEEN EMPTY FOR 6 MONTHS, THEN THEY ARE HARDLY BEING PUSHED UP THE HOUSING LISTS ARE THEY? DUUUURRRRR, OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE BEING HOUSED IN 8 HOUSES THAT INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO LIVE.
enoch 1V, to correct you. Asylum seekers are NOT entitled to social housing, they are supported by NASS, National Asylum Support system, NOT local councils.
If you're here legally, and you qualify for social housing (the qualifications for which being surprisingly strict), then you'll be handled in a queue with everyone else.
Some people may be bumped up the queue if a home which is unsuitable for the families waiting further up the queue becomes available. This is just sensible as a large home allocated to a smaller family would be a waste.
Why? Because social services doesn't discriminate based on race. The rationale for this is simple - if you're legally allowed to be here, then your work will yield tax money. If you're housed, then you can look for a job, and start paying tax against your wages. Works just the same for british folks who are down on their luck too.
It's a good system. At least, as good as it can be with the demands placed on it. Nothing's perfect.
To Donna S, the papers tell lies. When a 'white' family gets a social house, nobody says anything. If a hundred 'white' families get social housing, still nobody says anything. But when one 'non white' family gets social housing, the whole world is made aware of it, by the tiny minded fools that decided to join an odious political party because they don't have the intelligence to get a job. However, desperate people will believe anything they are told.
