How long does it typically take to get a Green card once you get married to an American citizen?
Answer:
Once you have filed all the correct paperwork, it can take anywhere from 6 months to two years. Depends which state you live in and the backlog at INS for processing applications. I was pre-9-11 and live in a less populous state and it took me about 6 months. However, I know now it takes 8-12 months on average. Some may argue longer...but this is to the stage where you get your work permit and to a Permanent Resident with Conditions....whereas the final stage before citizenship is Permanent Resident without Conditions. That takes up to 2 years to finalize the whole process (or more depending where you are at). Good luck!
Once you submit the papers, you will have to wait around 1 year ( But I also heard 1 1/2 years) to get the conditional residency card, and then after 2 years of receiving the conditional residency card you file for the permanent residency card, umm, good question, I don't know how long does it take to go from the conditional one to the permanent one.
3 years and STILL waiting............and I am from England.mind you paperwork sent back once as well.................got to LOVE the INS.
i believe it is 7 years so you had better be in love!
you can apply for citizenship once you are married for 3 years or you can wait for 5 years! citizenship is more complex than green card since the FBI will be investigating you and your spouse this time. have all the necessary documents ready and the fee.
1-2 points, eerr years.
