Mandatory background checks on employees. Severe penalties on companies that allow illegals to work for them. Do this and watch the massive migration out of the U.S. No wall needed. No camera needed. You could even cut border security. Will this happen? Probably not. It's better to look like you are fighting illegal immigration while appeasing the business community than to actually do something that would work.
Secure our borders first and foremost then begin the process of locating ,identifying and deportation of all illegal aliens.
A president and two political party's that are not Hispandering for votes and power.
US Army protecting and keeping our borders totally secure by whatever means they deem necessary.

As long as people are willing to hire illegal immigrants for half of what they would pay a citizen, and that is still more than the illegal immigrants could earn in their own country, they will keep trying to enter the United States.
I'm not sure if it would be cheaper to build stronger defenses on the border, or build a stronger economy in Mexico.
I have designed the perfect blockade.
A ditch 1/4 mile wide, sand slopes on both sides at a 25 degree angle (anyone who has tried to run through sand knows how slow that is) in the basin of the ditch huge boulders that they would have to crawl over to get through and at the top of the slope would be huge cactus plants about 40 yards then two sets of fences with razor wire stacked inside cameras mounted on the last fence as needed equipped with infra-red and motion detectors spread over the entire ditch and spotlights galore. If they get through this we reward them with a free flight to the southern most part of Mexico to start all over.
no jobs and enforcing current laws will help a lot - jail employers who hire the illegal alien criminals. If there aren't jobs the might stay where they belong.

A sensible guest-worker program, more border patrol agents, tighter control on those who enter the country on visas - either tourist or student. Arrest and jail the employees who hire these folks.
Armed civilian militia isn't going to do it. Fences won't do it (but doesn't it make the haters feel good to imagine it?),trenches and ditches aren't going to do it.
And, it is impossible to round-up and deport 11 million people. What kind of pie-in-the-sky thinking is that. We can't even find felons on the 10 Most-Wanted list. There should be an amnesty program for those already here and start from the first day to tighten the borders and put the laws in place.
Then, of course, we must be prepared to work at the jobs these folks do in our country....so line up, you people, and start applying for jobs as chambermaids, nannies, picking lettuce in the fields, harvesting fruit, washing dishes - and cars. Start training your children at an early age so they can get into these desirable positions.

All of the above. And for the people who think you can't deport that many people you are so wrong. It is happening.
If you really want illegal immigration to stop, write to the countries where the people are coming from, and ask them why they're not doing more to help their own citizens. People stay where they have opportunities, and leave in search of better opportunities when they can't find them at home.
People also have to create their own opportunities, and have the physical freedom to do that. That's another thing people run away from is oppression etc.
Personally, I think that we should quit worrying about the War in Iraq, Face it for all we know Osama is dead. Plus, all we do is bomb the cities, then waste money and build them back just so we can blow it up again and start the cycle over. Anyway, bring troops home and put them on the border to keep illegals from coming in. Then they should make some organization to go across the whole country and deport all illegals back to where they came from. Legals are fine, I haven't any problems with them but it is the illegals we really need to get rid of.
