I don't think it will make a lot of difference. I know personally of many 'visitors' from the far east and Indian subcontinent who have been able to get in by tourist visas and who are still here working after they expired. There seems to be no attempt to locate them and return them to their home countries. As long as we want to promote 'tourism' and grant visas to encourgae them to come, it is a hopeless task. Then there are those who are coming via the Canaries. Under EU rules they can enter, and once they have, it's a job to find them.
our borders should b a lot more secure then they currently are, i hope the government do more asap to combat this increasing problem with illegal immigration
too little too late if you ask me....especially when the olympics come, theres gonna be so many foreigners coming over here how are they gonna make sure they ALL go back? theres already far too many immigrants in England so whats the point in tightening security now ??
fine, but the gov dont want it protecting, they are hardly going to change their minds and protect the borders now are they, even if they promised it would only be for showmanshippurposes it wouldnt be real.
Tony Blair mentioned this last year and we have yet to see any significant number of immigration officers at work...what Blair says... Gordon wont pay for.
It might help if we knew how many people were coming into the country and how many were leaving. But most of the time there are no check on people leaving ,so we have no idea who the heck is here. The immigration service is told not to look for illegal immigrants as they may then claim asylum and then these have to be added to the figures that the government is always trying to massage. The Immigration service has the powers already they just aren't allowed to use it
If it stops people entering the country who write the English language as you do, it can only be a good thing.
What a smoke and mirrors typical new labour con trick. They have always had sufficient powers, they simply haven't been using them, because the Government didn't want them to. Now that the damage is done, they are pretending to get tough. Before new Labour came to power, we had effective border controls, we always have had, and we always enforced them. We have had waves of immigration in the past, although it has always been legal. You could certainly question whether, even this, was sensible, but that is a different matter.
You can blame the Human Right's Act, but it was this Government that introduced it.

This Government who will not allow the ethnic nature of gun crime to be made public, who released foreign rapists and criminals back into the community and were unaware they were doing so, do not deserve to be trusted to control our borders.My guess is there are no extra immigration officers .
Well while they are supposedly tightening up border control - perhaps they should be sending a team within our boundaries to remove the illegals - especially those involved in crime.
I say bring it on, and double quick.
