Illegal VS Legal Immigrant?
People who come here to work improve the economy. Government hinders it.
The statue of liberty says: The New Colossus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Answer:
I think people care so much because Americans are completely wrapped up in the "I belong and you don't" attitude. It seems that it may even be human nature to want to "group up" which inevitably leaves some out of the group. I can't understand that just because you were lucky enough to be born in this country and not some third world hole that you deserve it more. Everyone should be able to do the best for themselves and if some law tells you tough, live in squalor, I don't care about you, then I believe you need to do what makes sense and if there's one thing more Americans then ever can agree on, it's that our government, currently, does not make sense.
Why should the rest of us follow the laws then.
Without the rule of law our society will break down.
Follow the law or go to jail or get deported or both. Period!
Yes great saying; However, legal immigrants paid their dues, followed the laws, respect and love this nation. They also can't leave their jobs, it is an arduous task to be here legally.
Illegal aliens just said BLEEP the laws and that nation, just give us a free ride and money and we will be loyal to our own nation.
All I hear is blaa blaa blaa, I'm an illegal,,,
Well see when immigrates go through the legal process, they get tested to ensure they aren't carrying TB amongst other contigious dieases. Furthermore, After a 9/11 world it's more important now than ever to ensure these people are who they say Claim to be.
The law is the law and without law there is chaos and tyranny. When people choose to ignore the law in favor of their own whims and wishes, they are not doing the country good and they are not bringing their best to the country. We don't need illegals. Legals are welcome. Always have been. However, if this new bill proposed gives them amnesty or even a pathway to citizenship, There will be an uprising and no immigrants will be welcome. U.S. Citizens and law-abiding immigrants are tired of being stepped on, lied to, used, abused, and totally sick of footing the bill for these no accounts who prey on the sympathies of law-abiding people so they can continue their illegal acts. Criminals belong in jail.
Is that some sort of 'grafiti?
Sorry, but I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants.
The President of the United States does not have a clue when it comes to immigration and securing our borders against an invasion from the south. President Bush, along with several Republicans and many, many Democrats, has sided with Kennedy in supporting an amnesty bill that will ruin this country. I would have thought that these people in DC would have learned from the last two Kennedy sponsored amnesty bills that were touted as the end to ILLEGAL immigration but ended up giving us more ILLEGALS than before. They can deny that it is amnesty and point to sanctions but those sanctions will soon disappear and we will be left with millions of freeloaders who suck up resources and bring us down. One only needs to look at what they did to Mexico and what they have done to the towns they have taken over in the US to know that things will get worse, not better. Enough is Enough.
You do bring up something interesting. However people that come here Leagaly get alot more respect than the people that don't.
They are breaking Our laws & want Us to pay Their Bills. So perhaps you need to check both sides of the fence. "They only come here for a better life" some people say. That is true, what they forget to add is that they want you & me to pay there bills.
How is that right? That isn't if you were to go to Greese & expect them to pay your bills while you were living there, do you think that they would agree with you on that?
I think not.
How would that be different from them comming here to do the same thing?
All this wonderful things that have been said about your country(freedom, helping the poor, accepting the homeless and all of that) are now being twisted by corrupt people in government. I can't stand people(legal rich immigrants) who think of themselves better than the illegal immigrants just because they think they are following laws and like to kiss up to president Bush. Some, I'm not saying all illegal immigrants, do come here to work hard and to be best that they can be. I know these hard working people. I support them because there are those who are born here and do not take advantage of their rights when these people STRUGGLE to get a better life. Yes, they are helping this economy but those who oppose illegal immigrants staying, are selfish, patriotic, racist, upper class bastards. Oh yeah, and they do pay their bills!!
Spoken like some one who as nothing invested in America. Illegals are here to take the money and run. They clearly don't care about this country. They take the money they make here and send it back to Mexico where the government rewards them with 3-to1 remittance in the Mexican economy. The misguided leaders down there have also set up a special department to give those citizens who live out of country voting rights and other services not available to the people who have not fled north. You clog our jail with your criminals, our school with your kids, and use our public service so they cost American more and make them more scarce. GO HOME AND STAY THERE.
I care because if people start off thinking that they don't have to follow the law, they won't follow it any other time they don't like it. I have to follow ALL of the laws & so does everyone else!
I'm an american, but i think they should be allowed to stay. i mean, they do all the work that us americans don't want to do. They are the ones that take care of your kids, clean you houses, and build your homes. they're out in the sun picking vegetables and stuff like that. Somebody has to do it. i understand that they must follow the legal system but they have no choice. in their country they are not paid enough to feed their families. they do what they have to do, i support them all the way!
OK .. Here you go " Basic English " 101.. The definition of LEGAL is = Based upon obeying the law ******************************... The definition of ILLEGAL = Based upon committing acts against the law !!
The world today is different. We cannot afford to have open borders anymore. Sadly, among those who come here for the right reasons, are gang members, smugglers of drugs and people, terrorists and others with criminal intentions.
We must control who crosses our borders, and screen everyone who comes here. We lack the will to enforce our immigration laws because we want to be PC.
I don't believe we should punish those who came here illegally just because we didn't do the job of enforcing our laws. Many illegals are great people and should be citizens. Many who come here legally, like students from countries that support terrorism, are here to harm us.
So we need to secure the borders, seek out good candidates for citizenship or residence, and keep the undesirables out.
But keep the good people here, whether they arrived legally or not.
I am always amazed that we (Americans) can look at the poverty in the rest of the world in 2 minute clips on CNN, then stand up and look across our office at the engineers and other imported professionals and never question if there is any causality. We take the professionals and leave the "huddled masses" and somehow earnestly wonder why these perpetually developing countries cannot do away with their widespread corruption and establish an effective infrastructure.
This idea that our legal and illegal immigration are not connected has always baffled me. Perhaps we choose not to look at this because many of us have the romantic notion that the US has a completely benevolent effect on the world.
response to Jimmy:
This is a zero-sum world. The imported professionals that in many ways carry our economy were the product of investment in their home country. In many cases we are taking these people from the countries that can least afford to lose them and enjoying the benefit of their production. Policy is always founded on interest, not morality, all I'm saying is that our immigration policy is a case-study in this and let's stop pretending that the US is a completely benevolent force for good, when we are what we are, the preeminant power pursuing our interests at the expense of others (zero-sum world)...
Illegles ruin the economy by depressin wages. Wait...that's real good for some.
The answer is simple. This country cannot accommodate all the people from other countries who want to come to American. The ones who came here legally demonstrated their respect for our laws and waited their turn. In the case of my wife and her family, 5 1/2 years. This allows us to control the skill levels of those who immigrate and make some projection of the future demands on our social assistance programs. Without some form of control, the population of this country would swell to over a billion people overnight. I can't believe the nonsense about rich legal immigrants. If they're here legally and they're rich, that means we did well in permitting them to immigrate. What are you going to do during a major recession when all the illegals with no English language skills and commodity individual skills can't get work and demand social assistance? Give me a break.
Illegals cost this country a lot of money. Any immigrant who comes here legally is welcome. If you're an illegal, you should be sent home.
The more people in a country the better the country will be . we were all created for a purpose.some of us are more blessed that's all. why should we be selfish ?we are all from the same place and because of our ancestors migrating we have forgotten about the past.and because of lock of knowing our history. .we should first ask our self how does one becomes poor. Its because of lack of education an lock of blessings/inheritances,and the lock of believing and having confidence in ourselves.
