I agree with el thuggo.... Applying for citizenship is a good thing. Whether he deserves it is not at issue. There are citizens already here that don't deserve being a citizen. Apply ASAP. Instead of being snide to this person you should be applauding her bf for wanting to follow law and become legal. Good for him. I hope he is able to gain citizenship easily and enjoy it.

let see requirement for citizenship is 5 years with a green card, yet you ask went he can apply?
if he want to be a citizen he can start fill up the form and try to apply now...
he is eligible to apply within 3 months before the 5th year of LPR status
