Can anybody tell me what i need to do to become a German citizen?
Answer:
This is a good question. I have an additional question to go with this:
If a person at one point in time met all prerequisites, but moved away from Germany for a few years - do they start again from the beginning (ie: 5 years of residence), or can they "pick up" where they left off at? I lived there for 8 years and intend to go back, but would like to be "eingebuergert"
It's hard to answer this question. You need to stay in Germany I guess more than 5 years, speak, write, understand German Language, you need to know about culture, history, politics. You need to have some job here also. It is different from which country are you coming from, this is like a price list also how much you need to pay for it. I can tell you one thing: I'm originally from Turkey and apply for German citizen, long time ago, I was living already more than 5 years here and my husband was German. I wait less than 1 year and pay over (2000 German Mark). Ask your local German Embassy they can help you much better than I do, the rules changed here so much.
