How can a child be an american if the parents are both mexican?

Does not make sense and this law is a joke and should be changed right away ?It is breaking our country. in many ways and then if we deport the parents we are stuck with a child Now get Real?

Answer:
It's called the anchor baby system and yes it needs to be changed.
If you are born here, this is your home. Hence, you're an American.
if both parents are mexican then that kid is mexican and should be deported aswell.
the child was born in the USA.
I understand what you mean. It is like 'how can you be smart when both of your parents are stupid?'

The parents will take the child that has never and will never be a concern.
This is also true of Americans who are born in Mexico, or Italy, or France or England. Wherever you are born, you automatically become a citizen of that country.
If they were born in this country - they are American citizens. Have you never heard of not punishing a child for the sins of his parents.
Would you be happier if the parents were both English?
He can't.

'Immigration' is killing this country. It needs to be stopped. Foreigners need to be deported. ASAP
How compassionate of you.
if he was born in America then he's an american. but ethnically (an i believe this one to be more true than the other) he is a Mexican
It's been like this for a long time, and I don't see it changing anytime soon, nor do I think that it should. If you are born in America, you are an American, simple as that.
if the parents are mexican and live in the united states and have a child in said country the child becomes a us citizen. as you say the sad part is if parents get deported child stays in us and is put on welfare rolls or in foster care
If they are born here and have gone through naturalization, I think thats what it is called.
In order to abolish that "law", as you put it, you would need to repeal the 14th amendment to the Constitution of The United States. You need to do some research yourself because we deport said children with their parents everyday. The children are US citizens and are aloud to return to the US when they are old enough. The US govt does not keep children and deport the parents. I mean get real yourself. I'm not saying we need anymore people here than we have but get your facts straight before you start making stupid statements. In any case you should have no problem repealing the 14th Amendment since the constitution isn't worth the paper its written on any more.
Prey to God
NO! I'm Mexican and I am American!! If we are born here we're Mexican-American!!! If we're born in Mexico,or Cuba or someplace, THEN WE ARE IMMIGRANTS!!!!! So stop being racist!!!!!!
This is by and far the most ridiculous question I have ever read on MyTend. Unless you are a native american indian, then YOU came from immigrants. Is it 1950 where you live? Are you going to put on a white hooded cape and burn people on a cross in your backyard?

Seriously, I'm not saying that illegal immigration is correct or should be condoned, but a child is a child and they deserve a safe and happy place to live, no matter where they originate from. Selfish people with guns and hatred and racism and narrowminded thinking is what's destroying your country, not poor people from Mexico trying to make a better life for themselves.
You forgot,, illegal,, I think that the US government should be talking about this flaw in our Constitution and repair it as soon as possible. The illegals are abusing this American right and I think it should be decide it by the Congress. Foreigners, illegals are not part of the USA and if their children are born in the USA by mistake, they should be citizens of the country they are from.
Our great county has decieded a long time ago that any child born on american soil is an american. Many countries also support this same law. I had a friend who was a german and american due to fact she was born over in germany when her father was stationed there.

This law does have alot of problems due to fact if parents are here illegally should we really grant the child american status. NO. If they are here legally at least we are not spending millions and billions trying to get the parent out of here.

We had this discussion in school once and alot of people stated that if we abolish that law then technically none of us have the right to be here due to fact that we all immigrated from some other country or were brought here by force. The only true american is the indians. I feel that this is some what true but also feel that todays laws need alot of amendments.

But shouldnt the real question be why do illegals come here anyway. Is this because they will take cheap labor giving them money and making the person employing them a hell of alot richer in the end.
I am considered an american but both my parents are mexican, and thats because both my parents requested permission to live in the US back in the day and so they got a permenant residence, so my mom gave birth to me in the US thats how some cases go. But others cross illegaly and give birth in the US so they become americans
of course.
REPEAL THE 14th AMENDMENT

some radical group of mexicans (LaRaza, I think) have a class action suit against the USA that would make it illegal to deport the illegal parents of an anchor baby...but don't forget they only come to do work the jobs American's won't do.... LOL
Wow, I really can't believe people like you still exist. Don't be ridiculous. If you're born in the US then ofcourse you're a US citizen, not American because that would be referring to the whole continent (North, Central, and South). I guess if you want to say that illegal immigration is breaking our country, then I guess you're right, it has been happening since the beginning right, before the US was even created? Gosh I wonder what would happen if everyone, who came to the US illegally at some point in history, was deported.
If the child was born on American soil this makes the child a US citizen, regardless if his parents were born in another country. Learn your facts knuckle head before you start bitching about something you know nothing of!!
anyone born on U.S. soil is by law a American citizen
The child born to illegal immigrants, if born in America becomes an American citizen by birthright. The Nationality the child chooses to associate itself with is determined by bloodlines. This causes a hyphenated American, who may or may not have an allegiance to America. This is part of the problem, People claiming to be "Something"- American. Many young people have been taught to regard the nation of their ancestors to be better than being an American, hence " Somekinda" pride.
A rat born on a ship in the ocean can never be a sailor. It is always going to be a rat.
Because they're not mexican; cuz they weren't born in Mexico. you ship them back Mexico gets angry. and starts selling you less gas then.....blah blah blah its politics baby...You should study it's fun.

YEAH IT'S THEY'RE BIRTH RIGHT YOU KNOW HOW SOME PEOPLE WERE BORN PRETTY OTHERS UGLY OTHERS RICH AND POOR!
