Do my fiance and I have to be married for a certain about of time before I can be approved for my h4 visa?

My fiance is taking a job in the US, but were not married yet. If we get married before his H1B visa and we apply for my H4 visa at the same time, will they make us wait until we've been married longer before I can go/be approved?

Answer:
Hi there, Im from the US and came to the UK- so in a reverse situation from you- but in my case- I could have travelled and lived etc on a fiance visa as long as we were married within 6m.
However, I'm not sure going the opposite direction to be honest. I would definitely give a call to the US consulate of whatever area you live in. We made the mistake and didn't call and I ended up making a trip to the states and back to get my info worked out.

I would say- if you are going to work etc there- get it ALL sorted out before you go.... Those customs and immigration people are hard nosed and out to get you.... they ask you questions to trip you up, and make you nervous- like you've done something wrong... which IS their job- to weed out the people that dont belong there for real....

But saying that- they are looking for any little thing- to deny you getting a stupid stamp- or seal in your passport... Just cover ALL your bases before you go- or you might be going home to straighten out any details... Good luck! I hope it all works out for you , and I hope my advice wasn't too scary.
