I'm sure it has to link, but there will probably be information on when it was stolen, too, so hopefully that will be a wash.
yes, it linked but no longer good to used "the old one" you think the U.S govt going throw away all the information about the stolen old passport in the system stuff like the times you use it to enter the country .
If it was reported stolen, then i cant see why it should be a problem to you, of course i believe you are supposed to tell them of any previous passports anyway even if its not linked, i'm not sure if it is or not.
Why else would they be numbered? Just to know what part of the the line you were in or how many passports were sold? You should not have did what you did if approaching law enforcement entities will cause you huge problems. This is one of the reasons the new passports are having "chips" placed in them. You think the chips are just to tell them "oh it's only Joe, he be cool, let him pass" You better talk to some computer electronics geeks if you are scared and still want more info.
