Why isn't everybody as upset about all these signs in French as they are in Spanish?

Everywhere I go I see signs in French. Labels in French. Instructions in French. I don't live anywhere near France or Canada. Should I be upset about this? It seems everyone is so upset about Spanish signs. I just wondered why they aren't as equally upset about French.

Answer:
People are just being idiots and hating on a language that has nothing to do with a person.
they think that by eliminating Spanish in the U.S. will somehow eliminate illegal immigrants.
Your school districts(at least in Cali. i don't know about the rest) demand that you learn a foreign language and many people take Spanish.
And they like learning it.

Does speaking English define you?
Many people speak in other countries countries besides this one, so i don't think it does, huh?

And Spanish is not only spoken by Mexicans in response to that ignorant that answered your question.
I speak it and i'm from Peru.
I live in Minnesota, I don't think I've ever seen a sign in French.
The french are not trying to steal our country, Next stupid question?
Spanish signs vs French labels. Apples and Oranges. Labels are on goods like food, and the manufacturers make them to be sold in multiple countries. Road signs aren't made to be sold in different countries, they are made for a specific place by a road. So one is an instance of free market corporations increasing the range of their product, one is an instance of Spanish becoming commonplace in a region.

For the record, I don't have a problem with French labels or Spanish signs.
I have never seen any signs in French. I live in Vegas. I wish I did, French is sexy...
Don't know where you live but there's none here. Ours is either Spanish, Arabic or Korean. I'm ticked at all..unless it's the menu of an ethnic restaurant. I'm sure that others have seen the Spainish speakers don't learn English so why should we. I'm afraid it's going to open a can of worms where no-one feels they have to adapt to life here. How many different languages should people be expected to learn anyway? Learn English. 1 language...learn as many other as you want. Speak Klingon as far as I'm concerned...just do business in English.
Well pam because, when the usa markets toys, merchandise etc...it normally ships to here in the US and also Canada. So, they save time by writing the labels and instructions in French.

I am upset because everything in AMERICA is in spanish now, wherever you go. Nothing is in french except for occasional instructions. but, street signs, fastfood, restaurants, grocery stores, everything is in spanish. I am so sick of these mexicans
Well. I have never seen a sign in the US(that I recall) written in French. Except, French class. I probably would be just as upset about the those signs as the others. I find an imigrants(French,German, Mexican, etc) lack of willingness to at least learn the language, an insult. Don't tell me the Mexicans don't feel the same. They do. Or the French and Germans. Tourists are different. But, if you intend to live there for any amount of time. LEARN THE LANGUAGE!!
You are thinking about labels and products, that you see french signs. That is because the product is probably sold in france as well. However the product may be sold in mexico, but it is primarily written in spanish for the majority of mexicans in the U.S.
I LIVE IN NYC AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SIGN IN FRENCH. PLENTY OF SPANISH BUT NO FRENCH. WHERE DO YOU LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS?
What are you talking about?
I live in WI and we are so close to Canada that in the winter my friends from the deep south tease me about living in lower Canada. I have never seen any French signs but I see Spanish everywhere.
You people live in a bubble, dont you? Go to Europe, there are signs not in 2 or 3 languages but at least 10.
I live in Texas and I don't see signs in French.
Because most people from France are caucasian. Most Spanish and Mexican people are dark skinned.

It's called racism.
B/C the French aren't taking away our jobs and flaunting it in our faces. And actually, movies are about the only thing I see that are in French.
dont see any french in l.a. either
I live in Texas and I have NEVER seen a sign in French. Everythhing IS in Spanish though. Its ridiculous. I dont know where you live that you see a bunch of French signs but it sounds like a lot of bologna to me.
You do? It is NAFTA, but it isn't for people here, it is like those toy assembly instructions that come in all sorts of languages, but it doesn't mean anyone near you speaks those languages.

I speak as much French as anyone I know around here, and I'm telling you, it isn't much.
