There is such a thing as an I-797, it is called a Notice of Action that is sent out by USCIS to show receipt of and/or approval of a filed petition.

For employers to classify employees as L-1 nonimmigrant intracompany transferees (executives, managers, or specialized knowledge professionals) under a blanket L petition.

Where to File :

there is no such thing as i-797 and anyother questions can be found there. and if you are trying to get a work visa it is easier to get H-2.
H-1b visa is for a very skilled worker and harder to get because the jobs that go with it are smaller in number.
