If it's not, it certainly should be true. As a citizen, I resent being used by someone who can't find a mate amongst 300 million people, to go abroad to find a mate. Most people who do this are being used by the immigrant to get resident status. Once they are able, they are usually gone like a big @ss bird, to find their own life in these United States!
The other scenario is cell members of the Islamic Jihad who use this method to migrate to the US. They usually find an unsuspecting, naive individual, blow in her ear about love, and the next thing you know, she's sponsoring his hideous butt, to enjoy residency here.

yes you can marry the person you are sponsoring
it's a visa for either spousal or one for fiance
but there are minmum requirements
and they will check to see for fraud
and you end up singing an agreement with the US government
so if he divorces and then later goes on welfare
they will come after you for the money
in short there are US men you could marry
with none of the hassles
but other than that you cannot sponsor in a boyfriend
