If you have a working visa how long does it require before you can become a green card holder?

Answer:
This is a pretty vague question and there is no 'right' answer because the answer depends entirely upon your personal circumstances and how USCIS chooses to handle your case.

But here's a general scenario of how things should go for you.

You have to first find a job with an H1B visa employer company in the USA (commonly known as your 'H1B sponsor').

Then, your H1B sponsor has to file your H1B visa (H2B visa if you don't have the required college education) application. Only your new employer can sponsor you when it comes to this - you cannot sponsor yourself on an individual basis.

An H1B visa is typically valid for up to six (6) years and entitles your spouse (husband/wife) and children to accompany you and 'live' in America.

Obviously one of the main advantages of the H1B visa (USA work permit) is that it is a 'dual intent' visa which means that you can apply for a Green Card (Legal Permanent Residency).

If your employer chooses to sponsor you on a Green Card application then you can apply for a Green Card. How long does it take to get a Green Card? Again that varies.

I came to the USA on a fiance/marriage visa and after getting married I was able to obtain a Green Card in 6 months flat. But I had a solid case, passed my background checks with ease and was from Canada (not a threatening country).

When it comes to filing your Green Card application I think that there are a couple ways to do it - I would ask your employer (sponsor) to tell you more about that.

You can file for 'adjustment of status' (Green Card) in the USA with the USCIS.

Or you can opt for 'consular processing' with the American consulate in your home country, where a consular officer adjudicates your case. If your case is approved then you can sometimes gain USA legal permanent residency (Green Card) on the spot. So... it can be faster to apply that way. With all the changes that came after 9/11 though.... it may not be any faster. So take note of that.

I am NOT a USA Immigration expert. I did come to the USA as an immigrant but USA Immigration is complicated and so I certainly don't have all the answers for you. If in doubt, do some research on the Internet or consult a USA Immigration lawyer. Good luck!
please just go back where you came from. if everyone in the world comes to america, it will be ruined for americans. also, why dont you care enough about your own home to try to make it liveable?
