If my mom is already a citizen and i'm not 18 yet, how can i become a citizen?
ps. i'm in new york city
Answer:
If you were born here, you are a citizen.
Maybe you could convince the authorities that you became a born again Christian while in the United States. That way, you could say you were born here, from a certain perspective.
If you Mom became a citizen and you are under 18, you derive your citizenship through her. Congratulations! you are already a USC.
However you want to document and formalize that, so you have proof.
She can petition for you, you can't do it yourself.
She will file a form N-600.
The normal natz form is a N-400 but that is not what a parent does to formalize your situation and get you the certificate.
Go the the CIS website (Citizenship and Immigration Services)
www.cis.gov for more information
If your mom became a citizen by naturalization while you were under 18 years old and a lawful permanent resident, you automatically became a us citizen at that moment You don't need to apply for naturalization, instead your mom needs to apply for a certificate of citizenship (form N600) on your behalf while you are still a minor, otherwise you can apply yourself once you turn 18.
Note: Submit this application to the USCIS District or Sub-Office with jurisdiction over your place of residence.
She should fill a certain petition qucikly before you become 18. I saw the petition yesterday when i was bored and just looking around on uscis.gov but there is a certain petition that she can fill for you to get a greencard or citizenship. It might be the N600.
