When can I apply for citizenship in the UK?

I arrived in the UK in December 2001 on a working holiday visa which expired in Dec 2003. I have been sponsored by my job in the NHS and have a work permit from Dec 2003 until Dec 2008. When can I apply to become a British citizen.

Answer:
I would just pop down to the Home Office and say "hello I want a passport"
They are not known to turn anyone away these days !!!
That would depend on what country you come from and what your job is
I think you can apply now. The old requirements was being there 3 years. It changed this year to 5 years, you're covered either way. Ask your immigration social worker, they will let you know. Good luck to you.
it's your wish
You should check with the UK visas website, that gives details of entrance requirements for the UK, If you type in your purpose of visit, your nationality and your location, the website will tell you everything you need to know,e.g. visa,or entry clearance, which application forms you need to fill out,and more! Check it out! And Cheer's to you!
I think after 5 years you can do it. Check with these people, www.1stcontact as they specialise with these sort of things.
