What happens after a marriage interview with US-CIS? Do they still stamp the passport?
I am currently applying for Adjustment of Status (I485, I130) through my US citizen wife. I am an overstay of more than 8 years. I received my interview letter this week and I have two questions:
1) does CIS still stamp passports after the marriage interview? if so, do I need my passport to be valid (it is currently expired).
2) what happens after the interview? when you get approved, how long do you have to wait to travel outside of the US?
Thank you so much for your help!!

Question:
1) does CIS still stamp passports after the marriage interview?
Yes
if so, do I need my passport to be valid (it is currently expired).
yes. You can go back and get the passport stamped later too. The immigration would give you a letter granting your status. My suggestion: apply for renewal right away (NOW). But if it is going to take long time to renew, then don't. At the time of interview, passport will be needed as photo identification and as proof of your nationality. It is also looked at as proof of entry etc.
2) what happens after the interview?
If you are eligible, documentary requirements are met and there are no grounds of inadmissibility and fingerprint checks are in, your application will be approved.
when you get approved, how long do you have to wait to travel outside of the US?
Once you have proof of permanent residency (stamp on passport or actual green card), you can travel right away. There is no "waiting period".
Good luck and keep us posted!
