Living and working in the US? Which is the best state to migrate to? I'm an Asian.?
I'm seriously thinking of migrating to US, say, 5 to 10 years in the future. By then (10 years later), I'll be 41. I've 3 kids, who will be 18, 14 and 11 respectively.
How do I find out more about which state in the US has good schooling system, good job opportunities (especially in the early childhood field), not racist (to asians), low crimes, and affordable living? How do most Americans find immigrants? And also, what are the necessary immigration laws do I have to abide to or fulfill?
Any websites, suggestions, recommendations or even people you know whom I can liase with, will be greatly appreciated. Please specify the cultures and lifestyles of the state that you are recommending.Thank you for answering!!

San Francisco CA would be good if you want to live in an asian community.

I live in Overland Park, KS, just south of Kansas City, in the dead center of the county. We have a large Korean population, as well as many illegal mexicans, and some illegal Chinese.
There are also many Asian Indians, and I always see them taking leisurely walks every day outside.
This town was originally made up of farmers, and they are now senior citizens, and somewhat closed-minded when it comes to foreign cultures.
However, Overland Park's younger generation (50 and below) is a big mix of cultures and business-minded, goal-oriented people. We boast excellent schools here, and have relatively mild weather. We are actually the sixth best place to live in the entire country.
Homes are a little more expensive, but the economy is booming here.
If you are looking for low crime, good schools, small-town atmosphere, and very low priced homes with a fair amount of land, check out Centerville, Ohio (a suburb of dayton). They get more rain and snow than Overland Park, KS, but it is a good little town. Their homes run about 50,000 to 100,000 cheaper than the same homes in Overland Park.
All immigration situations are different, so I would recommend looking at the homeland security website: uscis.gov .

Look at St. Paul, Minnesota.. Fairly easy to get a job, not a bad crime rate, pretty large of an Asian population, don't believe there is much racism towards Asians here, if anything it seems that the Asian community purposely segregates themselves from the rest.. i would chose California..I feel that place is comfortable for Asians(even im an Asian)..
one of my cousin went to study there and he felt difficult to live there...but after 3 when he started working, he is totally alright and he has owned a bangalo and two cars for himself..he is having a happy life now..

If your a Pacific Asian, It has to be Hawaii. Its the most tolerant toward Asians. California is second, but it is cliquish. A Philipino told me that her favorite place is Minnesota, so they guy above maybe correct. My belief is to stay west of the Rockies. THe exception is New york City. THe last place you should move to is the great lakes area, especially detroit. ALso avoid Tennesse. With the Auto industry tanking, there will be a lot of hate floating in the rust belt. As for Tennesse, there is several court cases that is antagonistic towards asian. THe last is the "He" case A judge helped kidnap a Chinese baby from their family. It took 7 years before the Tennesse supreme court ruled to return the child to the birth family. As for education, California sucks except for colleges. They excel for colleges though. THis is because immigrants drag the education down. Crime - California is high, but then there are cities that rank very very low in Crime. Its dependent on where you live. California and Hawaii is extremely expensive to live in. In fact, the friendlier the city towards asians, teh more expensive it will be. My suggestion is for immigrants, to live in areas where there is an established community. As least there is a place familiar to run to and if racism exist, there is resources to help. THat is why I don't recommend Minnesota,despite my friends statement. It does have a good education system, and they are reknown to be very friendly people. THere are also many large industry involving the CHinese there too. Crime is low in that state. THe weather is really bad though, but you didn't state which Asian counry your from. You might want to research more in that.
I don't want to give the wrong impression of my opinion of Tennesse and Michigan. I'm sure the majority of people are nice, but it takes less than 1% to make a state an unfriendly place to visit.

There are a lot of early childhood opportunities in California, but compare that to not such great schools for your kids due to overcrowding. However, my sister teaches at a private school and heavily discounted tuition for her own kids is part of the compensation package.
Not low crime or affordable living.
Here's the thing - low crime often equates to lower business opportunities. It isn't cause and result, but it tends to go together. It doesn't mean the opportunities never exist, but say there is a small town with a stable population. You'd almost have to wait for someone to retire to get a job.
I loved Illinois for this, but I understand that it has changed somewhat. Kentucky has it still, at least for now but won't have many Asians, to be honest. On the other hand, no reason to be prejudiced, either....
There are 'best places to live in the US' web sites you can look at (put those words in your browser) and if you go to Realtor.com and look at a town you are interested in, you can go to a property listing, go to the bottom of the page, and click on 'neighborhood report' and 'school report' which gives you some data on crime and school test scores.

No one could answer ur Q ! It is like asking what kind of food & drink should u have. Everyone has different taste. How do i know ur taste. Every state is different. Some might like California, some might like NY or Ohio, or NC.
Some like Paris, some like Rom , some like Zimbabui ...etc.

move to the chicago suburbs. you get the great schools and the benefits of having a relatively clean major city nearby. really, you are best off just outside cook county, as taxes will be lower and there is less corruption, but the expressways make the entire area open to you.
