How long is the process of attaining a US Work Visa ..... as a Canadian Citizen ? ? ?

Basically I would like to know how to go about getting summer job in the United States for my Canadian friend (she is currently a university student at a Canadian University ) so that she may spend the summer with me. It looks like the TN visa would not be applicable because I do not think that she could be classified under any of the listed professions (correct me if I'm wrong though).
