Bush is NOT "tough on immigration." He's for whatever his business pals want--and that doesn't include immigration reform--they're making too much money off the status quo. As for this "deal"--its nonsense. Bush doesn't have the authority to do this Social Security deal--thats up to Congress.
The reality is that (though a lot of people don't like this) we're going to have to have some kind of guest worker program and amnesty to clean up this immigration mess. But that doesn't have to--and shouldn't--include rewarding people who are here illegally. It can--and should be limited to--giving those who are otherwise law-abiding a chance to prove themselves--and no more.
Bush doesn't want that--or he would have really pushed for reform. But its also one more proof he also doesn't care if we have another terrorist attack--or he would have pushed reform so we could get control of that border. Hispanics aren't a threat to national security--but we've been incredibly lucky so far that terrorists haven't walked right in through the door he has so obligingly left open.

Well the key part of your answer is in the first four words. What was bush thinking. He doesnt think - he is a puppet on a string and does as he is told by his string pullers. He wasn't smart enough even when he was told planes hit the world trade center while he was in florida to get up and leave - he just sits there.....on and on....not doing anything......whew....

YES finally someone gets it. He is screwing the US citizens. I have worked with aliens, and most of them are illegal, with false credentials. You can get a green card of a person who left the US for about 500 dollars in Chicago. All it says is male or female and general information. Black hair, Brown Eyes, 5' 8" tall about 150 lbs. Sound familiar. I worked with a guy who had his third one because he didn't want to go back to Mexico. Employers should be fined big for hiring illegals it steals real Americans jobs. And the bullshit about illegals working for minimum dollars is bull, I worked in a factory where full time people got 15.70 an hour, wonder wonder most of them were "Mexican Americans" supporting their families in Mexico. Does an born bred in America person get the same advantage, I think not. Check and enforce borders, Charge to get into the US, and build a big fence with towers and dogs. I am sick of working and having someone who can't even learn the language, like my grandparents had to, work beside me and ridicule me and and think they are superior.

And yes my grandparents came from other countries, I myself am second generation and third generation American. My family had to sit at Ellis Island, and My family had to prove they wanted to be Americans, and most of all my family had to learn to speak ENGLISH.
Yep. No one believed it even though a lot of the same provisions are in the Senate Immigration Bill. A seniors group has been trying to get a copy of the Agreement for years, but the government refused to give it. The senior citizen group brought suit under the freedom of information act and finally JUST got it.
