No. When I had little education or experience, I did work with Mexicans. I didn't have a hard time getting the job because of an influx of illegal immigrants. Most people who make those racist claims are far removed from the actual situation. These jobs were physically demanding and paid very little. Most white people who had these jobs moved on as soon as possible. Because of the high turnover, there are always positions to be filled. Second, a white person who wants a job will get one. A college student out for the summer isn't going to lose out to an illegal immigrant. Neither will a teenager. I have yet to meet a high school or college student who was unemployed for lack of employment prospects. In fact, the jobs filled by illegal immigrants are those where the employer could not attract a sufficient legal work force. Not many teenage kids are willing to spend their summer disembowling chickens for nine or ten hours a day. So I don't feel that Mexicans are a threat to the average American for a job. That's just another in the long list of fears spread by Americans who want to justify their racism.

The jobs of other CITIZENS of this country...why yes...not everyone can afford a college degree.

No. If you fear that a Mexican will take your job maybe you should work harder and for the pay you deserve. They dont come to this country and say "Hey an American lets take his job." People stop complaining and realize if you did your job right maybe it would not be taken by a guy who speaks no English.

Not my job - I'm a housewife. I do think illegal labor is responsible for certain blue collar job losses . I do not understand why policy makers who support global trade treaties do not make educational funds available for the people who suffer the negative effects of these treaties. Or would that just make everyone happy?
No, not unless they have the education, training, and experience that I do. I suppose it's likely that someone could come along and do what I do, but I see no reason that person would have to be Mexican.
If a Mexican did indeed have credentials and background that matched, or even surpassed, mine, then yes, I really think a Mexican is going to take my job.
Hopefully that won't happen if I work hard enough and perform my assignments with skill befitting my capabilities.
If you're referring to illegal Mexican immigrants, then I can't help you. I've never been replaced by one, but I'm not naive enough to assume that it never could have happened in some of the jobs that I had. I just seriously doubt it.
immigrants aren't taking anyone's job and certainly not teens jobs. Teens cannot legally work in a chicken factory or a meat packing plant so not a single teen lost a job opportunity there and as has already been demonstrated there aren't any Americans wanting those jobs. The situation at Crider has went from bad to worse since the raids and that is with them raising wages. They still need 300 more employees and they are paying $9 an hour yet no one wants the jobs and complain that it is too cold, too hard, and too many hours as well as too yucky because they don't think they should have to clean chicken guts....my question for those idiots is what did they think that they would do in a chicken factory?
I am sure a Mexican or an African American or a Native American, or an Asian could do my job. But first they would have to learn the tax laws of our country and takes some courses in Accounting. :-)
Mine? No, there aren't 1,000 people in all of Mexico that are qualified for my job and none are eligible for the security clearance.

its not a "Mexican" thing. It's an illegal immigrant thing. I don't like that people put a race on an epidemic that just so happens to have Mexicans as the majority. I'm not personally fearful that an illegal immigrant will take my job at my bank, but I am Mexican myself with an education and I am the child of two illegals who became legal to give ME a better life so that one day I can convince at least one person that it's not the Mexicans to blame but our government that makes it so easy for them to use our tax dollars for health care and housing. By the way, I see far more "Americans" taking advantage of the system than Mexicans. And I know that WHEN a Mexican takes my job, it's because he/she is far more educated and has the qualifications to take my job.
Really they don't take the jobs they earn them...and if everyone would take the time to earn their job they wouldn't lose them!

I am with DAR on this one- I know they are ruining my children's schools. We have an ESL classroom, teacher and separate curriculum but not a separate classroom for the children who fall into the gifted category.

Actually right now they are trying to get mexicans to take my job,they are allowing them to come in under the rules from NAFTA agreement so that they can get employees who will do the job for far less than I will because they are willing to accept a radically lower standard of living. At the moment the stats aren't in but based on news reports Mexican drivers are not showing themselves to be as safe as we were lead to believe. In fact I met one today,nice polite guy but he looked like he hadn't slept in days,and after 17 years in the transportation business where I've driven enough miles to make at least 3 round trips to the moon I know that look.
