I wanna live with my babe who is Australian! Can anyone help us?
Answer:
I have been in your situation. And I don't mean to be disheartening you, but it is not going to be an easy process.
If you can come as a student, you can get a student visa. That would be the easiest and quickest way you can come here. The second is a working visa, but that is not easy. If you specialise in an area of work, it would be easy but you will need to find a company to sponsor. Then you are stuck with the company for however long your contract is.
Now, there are only 2 other options here (legally). And I don't know your situation, but you can judge which is better if the other suggestions above do not work.
If you have been with him for over a year, you can apply for immigration - temporary residency - under De Facto. De Facto would mean that you have been together for over a year, living or depending on each other which you would need substantial proof. This is not easy to get, trust me. I hope you have all the emails, phone calls, chats saved. It will take a few months to a year for you to be approved or rejected depending on the condition that you can prove the relationship.
Now, the second option - which we took - is marriage. Come here under your Tourist Visa, and get married under the THREE MONTHS that your visa is allowing you to stay. You will need to apply for temporary residency prior to your tourist visa expiring. Whilst waiting, you can stay here under the same conditions as your tourist visa, however, the length of your stay would be extended until you receive a decision from immigration. You cannot work until you get approved. Once approved, you get permanent residency.
If you are really in love, you may consider getting married. Just like you, I came here to visit three times. The first time I visited (I did live in LA) and after staying for ten days and coming back, we realised that we wanted to be together. And the quickest and only option for us was getting married.
I know. Big step. I was quite cynical about marriages. However, think about this - is there any better reason to get married - is there anything more romantic - other than the reason of you two wanting to be together?
This is the decision that we made. We have been married for over six years now.
Work with what you have, and that is the love that you share and the knowledge of togetherness that you two share. Marriage is never about being together forever, but sharing your love and your lives day by day, for as long as you love each other.
Good luck.......you can send me an email if you want more advice.
you'll need atleast a permenant residency visa. maybe look at getting a spouse visa, but you need to research it pretty well.
right now, is tougher to get into oz then ever before, unless you are skilled worker willing to work for slave wages who can be exploited. but i digress.
check out the australian gov page and see what you have to do to emmigrate. also, try calling the australian embassy in brazil, the embassy staff should be able to give you heaps of info over the phone
