If you migrate to another country, should you learn that country's dominate language and use it?

Answer:
Most other countries demand it. America is one of the few that lets you become a citizen without being able to speak the language.

I think you should be required to speak the native language of a country if you want to be a citizen.

Learn the bad words first it is good in conversation
yes , without question
Definately. And unlike some other posts have said, if you become a legal American citizen, you have to demonstrate a working knowledge of both spoken and written english. The problem is that we are flooded with illegal immigrants who want to bring the culture and language of their second-rate countries here.
Absolutely yes.
Absolutely! "When in Rome, do as the Romans do..." While I am saying to respect that nation's culture and ways, I am not saying to give up yours. Just defer to their default, as it is polite, and reflects better upon your own culture.
Y E S!!!!!!!!!!
Rich: What is the problem with bringing your culture to another country.?Speaking English, and bringing your culture to another country are two different things.
Interesting question. Perhaps not your generation should learn the language, but succeeding generations, as they are incorporated into the society will learn it. This has happened all through American History. The Germans had their own communities and gradually incorporated into America. Same with the Russians, the Italians, the Swedes, the Vietnamese, and now the Mexican and Central Americans.

We all want transition to happen instantly, and it never has, and likely never will.
If you can get by without, then more power to you. It would be very difficult to move to a foreign country and NOT learn the language...you tend to pick up important words and phrases. But you certainly shouldn't expect for that country to learn YOUR language.
Absolutely, if I were to emmigrate to another country say Italy, I would definately learn the language. It is courteous and intelligent. How does one expect to succeed in a country where they cannot speak the language? It cannot be done. Thanks and have a nice day.
No doubt about it!

And that country shouldn't pay to help you learn their language either!!!
YES!!
Yes.
Absolutely; while in Rome do as the Romans do. That saying explains it all.
I would also think it's a good idea to learn the language inorder to get by easily....
Well, according to a large contingent of Latinos, NO.
FozzieBear, English is not the native language of America, an indeginous american language is the native language of America. The English language was brought into America by the English.

As for my opinion, yes immigrants should learn that country's lamguage but without assimilation, just adaption.
