I sponsored someone who has a (long term 10 year) visa, as a visitor to the USA, they have now went back to their homeland. I filled out the original sponsorship forms for them to come to the US on a visitor visa and filed all the sponsorship papers and stated that I would assume all financial responsibilty (since this is what is required on the documentation for sponsorship). Since they are allowed unlimited entries into the US within 10 years (since they have a 10 year visa) and they are wanting to come back am I responsible for them? Or is the original sponsorship void since they left or am I obligated for the entire duration of their 10 yr visa. I tried searching but could not find any answers. Thanks for the help and if you require more info I will try to give it. Thank you.
Answer:
if the form you signed was the I-134, it contained a clause where you would have stated the duration and amount of the support. But i don't think you would have much of a problem anyway. The form is still in limited use and was replaced for immigrant uses, with much more enforceable legal language.
Don't worry!
Call the USCIS 1-800-375-5283 and ask them that question. You will have to wait around 20 m. to talk to a representative, but they will know the answer ( I hope).
