Minutemen?
Sounds like a really bad choice (like they can only be "firm" for a minute)!!!
Just noticed how dumb it sounded, that's all.
Answer:
The term came from a militia that fought off the British in the American Revolution.
It is now being defiled by a group of retirees who claim to be patriots by sitting along the border and possibly killing people crossing it. can you honestly believe they wouldn't do something like that, think about it, a bunch of people who hate "illegals" in the middle of nowhere with the people they hate in their custody. Of course they have killed, beaten and maimed them.
minutemen comes from the revolutionary war with england...people being ready to fight at a moments notice to save their fledgling country...learn some history....quit listening to your antiamerican teachers and media...
Minutemen called themselves that because they swore to be ready for a conflict at a minute's notice.
It maybe sounds dumb in today's terms...lol... but give our ancestors a break.
It's referring to the the militia of the American Colonies that claimed to be able to fight a battle with only a minute's notice.
It came from the American colonial days. It was a term that referred to the militia - a group of men that could be ready to fight in a minute's notice, hence the name "minutemen".
What is "dumb" is you not knowing the very basics of American history. (If, by chance, you are not an American, please disregard my last remark.)
Edit: Making erection jokes about our honored Americans is not compassionate and well mannered, either. And I, too graduated from a university with honors.
The founding fathers needed to be ready to fight in a minute,a phrase that will be lost in the new history books as lies become the norm.
It did originate during your war of independence but if has now been appropriated by a vigilante posse which aims to defend the borders by shooting anyone that crosses into the USA. (I exaggerate, but only slightly). When you encounter the term, be sure which group you are reading about.
Gotta go with the first couple of answers, that just about sums it up.....
Revolutionary war, they were civilians fighting for the USA, now the war is different but our brave Americans are also ready to fight this invasion that is taking place all over our Nation. God bless them all, they are the true Americans.
Dirty minded, much?
Todays Minutemen take their name from a group of patriots from the history of this country!
I think it came from them killing 5 illegal Mexicans a minute
a minuteman was a term used in the revolutionary war regarding how fast the man could reload his musket.
"IF YOU WENT TO SOCIAL STUDIES AND LISTENED "
that would have helped
it was important to be able to reload quickly so as to get off a shot faster than the enemy.
The term came from colonial America.
Your twisting the sentiment from what it originally meant amounts to spitting on American history.
You must be totally ignorant of US history not to know the answer to that. Minuteman were patriots who were part of the militia who fought against the British during the Revolutionary War. They were called minutemen because they could be ready in a minute to fight for their country. If you are a product of US public schools and do not know this, that is shocking!
Today's minuteman guard the US border with Mexico to try to limit the hordes of barbarians who are invading this country. They are patriots who are trying to save this country from becoming a third-world country like Mexico. Perhaps you could spend some time studying the history of the US to alleviate your ignorance.
The terms "minutemen" and "militia" are often thought of as one and the same. However, in early America-- especially in the 18th century-- there was a distinct difference.
Minute-men represented a small hand-picked force selected from the ranks of local militia companies and regiments. Approximately one-third of the men in each militia unit were chosen "to be ready to march or fight at a minute's notice."
The true minute-men--- always the first to appear at or await a battle--- stood at Lexington Green on the morning of April 19, 1775, and led the attack on Concord Bridge. Their numbers were reinforced by the regular militia that turned out in that day's historic battles.
Actually, the concept of minute-men existed in America as early as the 17th century, while the term itself came into use in 1759 during the French and Indian War.
The title "minute-men" was formally adopted the year before the American Revolution started. At that time, in October of 1774, the Provincial Congress of Massachusetts voted to enroll 12,000 men under the title of Minute-Men--- volunteers who would be ready at a minute's warning to take to the field with arms.
After Congress authorized a Continental Army under the command of George Washington, minutemen units eventually ceased to exist. But their contribution as a trained and battle-hardened corps of veterans was an important and significant force as patriots took up arms to oppose the British army in the Revolutionary War.
The latest opposing invaders would be those sneaking in through our Southern borders.
Yes, the term does come from the days of Paul Rever, They had to be ready in a minutes notice, they were in some ways the first National Guard. Today the Minuteman are back guarding our border from todays invaders. All they do is report seeing illegal aliens, tell the border partol where they are, and even go and give food and water to those illegal aliens, in trouble, evening going as far as to see that they ok until the border partol get there.
"All the spellings I've seen are "minute m a n" (as in singular)
Your additional details were, indeed, entertaining. Cute, even.
The reality is that the peoples of Mexico and Central & South Amercica are stunningly capable of the same sort of economic miracle Japan experienced and that China is going through now.
However, to do so they'll have to show their current govt and culture the door and lock it when they're gone.
Then, reduce population growth and increase eduction. That should be the job of their OWN minute m a n organizations - to develop a method of teaching adapted to the evolving culture and situations.
And, yes, the nations of Central America DO need to remain "firm" for more than a minute if they have any hope of ever out-pacing such economies as Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, France (ugh), England, Italy, etc, etc, etc...
Those like yourself are enslaving your own people to fantasy. Re-assess your direction and goals. Stop being "Latino" for God's Sake! You were invaded by Spain! Start seeing yourselves as a new people in a new day. See your enemies as they really are: overpopulation, under-education, mythical history, the assumption that other countries with much more successful economies are "less" than you. Wake up and fight and I assure you that nations like those mentioned above will help you!
And the people of the United States are, by proof and record, the most generous contributors to charity in the history of the world.
If you chart a path to a finer national destiny, these people will flood you with more assistance than you might ever have imagined.
Good luck, soon-to-be-converted MinuteMan woman!!!

Do you mean like this?

lol....and before being the people we know a minute man was
an armed man ready to fight in a minute's notice before and during the Revolutionary War. Not to be confused with members of colonial militia, minutemen rarely drilled on a regular basis, as required of members of local community militias. Until the battle of Concord, they fought only when needed in conflicts against the Indians near their homes. In some communities the minutemen were part of their community militia but had a different set of responsibilities than those of regular militia.
